I have tried the wide gap and didn't like them. I kept my same hook-set and would have the fish on and then it would come off. I still have a few, but don't like them. ^^^^ Lost 5 fish in a row a few weeks ago(after I forgot I told myself last fall I wouldn't use them again...long winter!), switched back to my standard Owner and never lost another fish in 2 days. Same method. Same lake, same size fish. I was on Big O and was fishing thick grass. You had to get them up and out of it with braid. 5 of those fish spit the hook back at me while they were in the air (after being halfway back to the boat). Cost me a check.

I will say after reading the post, I do agree a light drop shot and c-rig would be idea for these type of laser sharp hooks.

What I love about their straight flipping hooks is they are shorter in length per size compared to other brands. Their 5/0 is solidly shorter than the Mustad denny hook I have so I can upsize my hooks on smaller baits. That and they are razor sharp. I don't have a crazy hard hook set and with these hooks I don't feel that it is necessary.
Yield not to misfortunes but advance ever more boldly against them

No I use braid mostly, it is the same line that I was using when I rolled all the points on the Trokar hook, it was a heavy flipping 5/0 hook, after every fish the point was rolled, so that is why I have not tried them since. I am not saying that Trokar is not any good, I am saying that I have never had a problem with the point or breaking or losing fish with Owners, if it aint broke dont fix it. Stren and Trilene line was just fine back in the day. Is that what you still spool your 20 year old heavy baitcaster set-ups that aint broke either?

I try them all and when something comes out that is superior to Owner, I will switch, unless of course they cost 3 times what an Owner costs.

There's a jig-maker on this forum who makes his jigs with trokar hooks and I've become very fond of the jigs in large part because of the trokar hooks. To illustrate, last week I was fishing deep with said jig. After a long cast, (and I'm not sure if everyone does this or just me,) the urge to take a whiz was too great. I hadn't yet begun my retrieve, and the boat/wind was angled perfectly for a whiz. I began my business. Just then, WHAM. With the rod in one hand and, well, a rod in the other, I set the hook with one arm at a funky angle with tons of slack. I managed to get myself zipped without too big a mess, checked on her and she was still there. When I boated her, the hook was so deep in the roof of her mouth - almost to the shank - there wasn't any way she could have come off. Crisis averted.
I have many leather bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.
