I have lost so much confidence in my fellow Americans. Every time I turn around I find things like this. I recently bought a new tackle box and found crank bait wrappers in it when I got home. Found clothes tags in some new clothes recently as well. It's just plain sad.

just another example of big box bussiness. they have figured theft into the pricing. things like this didn't happen when we had mom and pop tackle stores.

I know little about retail, but when was a kid working as a sack boy at a Gibsons (laugh if you like, I'm getting old) but I recall a mgr told me if an item was stolen, they had to sell 7 to 12 more of the same thing to break even for the one stolen.
I hate a theif and dishonestly.
I would be careful about posting the name of who the unit was registered to, he may have sold it in good faith to a crook and somebody else returned it.

They take my drivers license when i return something without a receipt. It's in their computer even if it's not registered. They have the ability to find the person that returned it.

I have been in retail for 30 years and it is incredible how much things have changed. Some people will try anything to get something for nothing. Then you have the Organized Retail Crime rings that just hire people to steal for resale. Years ago we didn't have all these problems. It is truly sad.

The worst one I have encountered is when I bought a gallon of Penns outboard oil at Academy. When I got home and took the cap off the little white cover glue under it was 2/3 torn off. It looked a little of in color. I poured it in another container and wow! it was mostly water with a little oil on top! Check all the packages you buy.
Retirement best job ever.

I am not sure how the bargain cave works.....are you not allowed to return items from there? If there is no policy like that I am sure you would be able to return it. Also shouldn't Cabelas and these other stores start checking these returns they are putting back on the shelf a little better? I agree people shouldn't do things like that but we all know it goes on and will continue to go on.
I love the Academy square bills. Great color and great action, however they are not the most rugged crank bait on the market. I have broken countless bills on those things within a week of buying. I have returned them and got new ones with no problem which is great. I have seen on more than one occasion my crank bait back on the shelf with a broken bill (I dip the back end of most of mine in spike-it).
All I am saying is these stores could do a little bit better job checking these returns.

People look at me funny when I inspect the packages I'm getting thoroughly and dig back for a better looking one. Just reduces problems.

I think at the big box stores the people accepting the returns aren't familiar with the product. Almost impossible with the amount of inventory they keep in stock.
There are many times I know the young lady at the return desk or checkout has no idea what she is looking at.

I work for REI and return policy is a 100% satisfaction. You would not believe what people will return and complain about product. Problem is the product is worn out and they want a new one. No morals. Thats because their parents didn't beat em enough when they were kids!!!

Little story about a Cabela's employee...I was looking at a reel at Cabela's and talking to the sales guy. I told him that I had already bought one from Academy and that I needed to send it in under warranty. He told me to bring it up there and he would replace it even though I bought it at Academy. I sent it in for factory warranty...no morals!

Ho$$ this isnt about big box stores, its all about the decline in any integrity in our society! People have no personal integrity or honesty! It's why our federal budget is out of control. We have our whole country trying to get something for nothing and this is just a a small scale example.
