"actually quit my job to fish every single day in march"

I know I've been tempted LOL. That's pretty hardcore though.

I have wanted to try that lake. Did not know if you could fish from a boat or not. And did not know if any Crappie were in it. I need to go look around.

Never fished there, but I was fishing at Richland Chambers last year and a guy came up to visit about fishing success. He shared that on Halbert in Feb you can drive to the end of the damn by the overflow concrete structure and can just wear them out from the bank...FYI

If we keep getting these 70 plus degree days and the nights don't get too cold, I'll be in my float tube in mid Feb. I like to start on the smaller stained lakes or the back ends of the larger lakes and look for fish all the way to the dam end on into May. Growing up back in Mississippi, the dogwoods blooming would, it seemed like, have every person big enough to hold a cane pole on the banks.

Tundra Rich and All,

First, I'm glad to be on with so many knowledgeable Crappie hunting folks. I may have to quit my job also to make sure I don't miss the spawn. I'm hearing the spawn may be in mid-Feb(a few weeks away) or maybe it's in March, and having just moved back to the Dallas area from Georgia, I just don't know. The folks around Ray Hubbard are stating they are catching bigger ones in shallower waters now (4-5 deep) as appose to a few weeks ago. I predict the 1st week of March will be wild!!!!

Still around 22 feet here..

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Halbert is a great crappie lake. I have caught loads over on the railroad bridge.
