Not yet... but they'll be itching pretty good in a few weeks if this warm weather lasts a while...
I don't live for the thump, but I sure do like it.

I was out today with the family in the canoe. The creek was too shallow to navigate, so we went out in the shallow flats. There were some fish in < 1'. One crappie was one foot deep one foot from the bank, caught from the bank. I guess even when it is the coldest time of the year, this sort of warm weather will pull a few of them shallow.

They surely weren't deep today. Caught one keeper fishing deep where I caught 17 a few days ago.

Last year I waited until March and caught the end of the spawn. This year I'm starting mid Feb (in a couple of weeks) to look shallow.
Don't let the remaining cold fronts fool you. Spring in N Texas is right around the corner!

I caught some today in 3 feet of water. Also caught some in 12 Feet of water. Had 17 keepers. Caught a bunch of little sand bass while trying to catch Crappie also. Seems my bigger fish came from the swallower water.

Crappie are strange years ago me and a buddy caught them in 2ft of water in january on one of the coldest days of the winter. Sometimes you just dont know, just like bass you can catch them all year round shallow and deep same goes with crappie. All winter mine has been coming from 2-5ft of water i think it really depends on the lake and the conditions. Smaller lakes have less places for them as in structure and drop offs so the lake i fish they relate to the road bed in it with a hard bottom, but the deepest part is only 9ft so just have to look for them

I generally do my best in april and have had years in May where i was catching dark males in 2 feet. But having said all that, i look forward to after the spawn when they move to deeper brush and become even easier to catch!
