I have a Humminbird 587ci hd di unit on the way and I'd like to know everything I'm going to need to install it on my coosa. Battery, waterproof box, goop and some kind of mount. Anything else? Any recommendations on any of the above stuff or transducer mounting? I've searched through some older posts but I'm still kind of lost. Thanks.

Well, you lose one, you rig one.

I know that Ninja put up a post awhile back about a ff install on a Coosa. You might try looking for that post and see if there is any usefull info. it really depends on where and how you want to mount it. Lots of options.

Make sure you have extra wire, 3 amp fuse, deer feeder battery and connectors for the battery. Shrink wrap and soldering iron are a plus as well.

depends a lot on the size of the transducer as to what you can do with it. I have a Lowrance 5XDSI with the ducer on the back. I have to remove it everytime but it works. It was too big to scupper mount. Previously I had a Bird ducer and it fit in the back left scupper under the seat. Worked great. Just needed a better unit.
I use an ammo box for my battery with eva foam to hold the batt snug in the box, have the cables for the unit coming through a small hole in the day hatch and up to my unit. Mounted on a mighty mount, screwball head and a Ram mount.

For the 3D DI to work you will need it in the water FYI, I have the same unit and used a Madd Frog transducer arm. Link has pictures of my install.

If you want a list of the things I used to make the whole mounting system PM me and I will put it together for you.

I used these sticky zip tie mounts, I got them in lowes elec dept. Cheep and control the wires. I keep all wires up so I can still stuff stuff inside without worrieng about yanking wires.

I just put a Lowrance Elite 4 DSI on my kayak and didn't know how (thru hull or in water) or where (forward, mid cockpit, or on stern) I was going to mount the skimmer transducer. For experimental purposes I built an arm from 1/2 inch pvc for less than $3.00. (4 foot piece of 1/2 inch pvc, 2 Ts, 2 elbows and the use of a jigsaw). Plan to upgrade the kayak this summer and didn't want to drill any more holes or attach any ram mounts on this kayak. Will probably go with the new RAM Arm when I get the new one. Until then this works fine and takes 5 seconds to put on or take off. I didn't glue any of the pieces so they basically are held together by just pushing together tight. Fits on either side of kayak and on either end of foot peg track. It doesn't get in the way of paddling and won't come loose at full speed.

You'll need to get a SD card if you want to transfer screen shots to your computer. Not included on mine, and it was a "micro" SD card, not sure on yours.

RAM Mount came up with a transducer mount late last year.

Transducer Mount

Look pretty nice and easy to remove.

Here is an interesting way of mounting a through hull transducer on a kayak.

here I posted some pics of my Scupper mount. I didn't want to drill any holes in my Kayak and I didn't want something hanging off the side of it either. Depending on which kayak I am fishing off of the Tuna or the Coosa I just switch it out. Hope this helps give you some ideas.
