Well I was hoping to mount the batter box someway so that it will not slide around. There are some strings in the front of your front hatch add an s clip and run them through the handle and the battery box will stay in the nose of the boat, see third pic. In salt I would want the battery box totally sealed. This is how I have mine set up, Inside battery box connection, Plug to box cord, Clipped in to cords with Sclip, Perko cowl with plug coming from battery box, Plugged in, Ram mount with madd frog transducer arm, Transducer arm,

That idea might just work. However a nice battery box is not in the budget at the moment. So i am just going with the castnet box. Hopefully i can get it high enough to stay out of the water completely but we will see. I did install the transducer today, still feeling sick though so i took some nightquill. Hopefully i will be passed out soon lol.

Well here is what i have come up with so far. Transducer is mounted in the hatch behind the seat. Moved my rod holder foward and installed the FF where the rod holder was. I filled the holes from the rod holder with silicon, it was way crooked before lol. Put some pool noodle into the box to keep it from moving around and installed my custom fitting which i plan to fill with silicon as well. I am thinking i will mount it up in the nose of the kayak.

Well here is an update on my project. When I installed the battery into the box it decided to make it completely seal, so I siliconed the entire lip of the castnet box and shut it. I also siliconed the fitting where the connectors come out and the 2 holes in the top for the handle. I decided to let the silicon cure overnight and test fit everything after work the next day. Yesterday I get home and hook up the battery box to the FF to make sure all my crimps and connectors were good. Hit power, nothing. So I take the box inside and hook it to the charger thinking it might not be charged enough, charger is showing the light for no connection, [censored]. So I grab my fluke meter and test the the voltage, nothing. So I open the box, ripping the silicon out. Test voltage on the battery terminals and all good. Check the block wire, for resistance, good. Ohm out the red, and OL. Found the fuse was bad. I had tested the battery and FF before i did all this but i neglected to check the fuse that came with the FF. Had to run up to the hardware store and got side tracked looking for stuff for other projects. They did not have it and had to go to the auto parts store to get it. Also got me a cheap LED flashlight for my 360 light pole I am working on. Got home installed the fuse, hooked it up and it worked. Siliconed the lip of the box again to make it watertight again. Then I started working on some of my other projects. Raised seat thing I was working on has been on hold for awhile but I found inspiration at work yesterday and made a super simple raised seat in about 5 seconds. I got a pack of "oil soaker pads" they absorb oil and repel water and work good as a cushion as well. This is just the temporary solution, but it will work for now. After that I started working on my light pole. I had grabbed a oil sample bottle from work that we use to send in oil sample to be tested for contamination. I used some super glue to attach it to the flashlight I bought. It says 30 lumens for 32 hours on the package, I find that a bit dubious on 3 AAAs but who knows, and it was only $5. http://www.homedepot.com/buy/life-gear-m...#specifications but mine is black. I had an old cheapo paddle that had come with my pelican kayak that had broke a blade when I turtled in 3ft deep water with a rock bottom. So I cut the broken blade and the good blade off of the shaft. Now I have a pole to mount my light on and it will easily collapse down. Now I just have to figure out how to connect the light to the pole while keeping it removable to change the batteries.

Have you tried the depth finder in the water yet?
Reason I ask is I've never seen a transducer mounted into the "V" of the hull before. I know that you have silicone and no air bubbles, but wondering if the contour of the hull under the transducer will effect the reading? Probably not, but I've never seen one mounted there before and I might have to try that if I decide to put mine inside the hull.
Just one more cast!

Well I would have liked to put it in a flat area, but ever the areas beside it are round not flat. No flat areas on the hull of my kayak. I will let ya know what happens when I take it out this weekend. Worst case scenario is I have to remount it. I used a ton of goop to fill the space between the ducer and hull. Hopefully that is good enough.

My 798ci SI is power hungry, so usually have 2 7ah batteries with me so I can swap em if one runs dry. I just keep them in a small styrofoam shipping cooler with a bungee cord holding it shut. Not worried about water, just keeps them from sliding around and connections coming loose or something. If you take both batteries and hook them up in parallel you probably won't need to swap them out at all. You will keep the same voltage but double the amperage.
