Heck no, thats tournament season also. Heck in Tx the spawn is from January till June. thats half the year. Besides thats what we have TP&W is for, to BEST manage our fisheries based on how the public uses them. Probably not a bad idea up there. Their spawning season is a lot shorter than ours . Even if you do C&R you're taking a chance at spooking the parents off the nest and leaving it open to predators .

I'm not sure everyone has an accurate understanding of the regulation... I think the seasons apply to the 'taking of fish'. I know that some specific lakes can be listed to not only have a season that restricts the taking of fish but also the 'targetting of fish with the intent to catch'...
I have no problems with having a season that says everyone has to throw back; i think most on this forum would say that is what they do anyway (NO, I don't want to start any bellyaching wine fest over catch-v-keep....)

i did a quick search and this is why i interpret the rule like i do:
The following waters in the portions designated are closed to the taking of all fish during the periods specified to protect fish spawning areas. A few may also be closed to boating to further protect concentrations of fish. Look for signs at access sites and in the areas as noted.

I was sent to a tech course in Minnesota and knowing I'd have some free time took some tackle with me only to find out when they say fishing season is closed thats just what they meant! I could go look at the lakes but thats it.

Like said above, probably makes some sense for areas with short spawning seasons, but not in Texas, no thanks! Not needed here. We're doing just fine, thank you!

Minnesota is a liberal democrat state. What did you expect? A rule with any sense in it? Fishing has been great here without it and we don't even have 10,000 lakes.

Closed seasons in MANY states has been around longer than anyone on this forum has been alive. Off seasons on rivers in Washington, off seasons for spawing bass in Minnesota...Those rules were for the benefit of the fish before outdoor activities had a dominate effect on the economy as they do now but they are "used to these rules". They have been around forever. And yes I believe it will never happen here because we are "not used to it" and it would hurt the economy.

I dont think it will ever happen because it doesnt need to. As many DD that are caught here in Texas year after year I dont think fishing the spawn has hurt one bit. Yes money is involved but I dont think it has much of or any affect on the overall population of bass.

I would be all for that. At least zoning off particular areas of the lake would be nice.

What would help better is slots enforced or catch and release only lakes .limit tournaments or 3 fish limit . But never close the season never . Texas does its own surveys and stocks are lakfrom hatcheries around the state.so its not totally dependent on the spawn.just giving nature a little help Texas is fine like it is. Look at all the awesome Fishery's in this state!!!
