I started with a 7 / 5 / 3 in that order. Just picked up a 6 earlier this year. Next is an 8, then I think I'm done.

Gotta give props to the 7. Under appreciated. J.

Rods Rods RODS !!!!!!!

I miss the 70's, and the 80's
Nuclear waste and Acid rain,
Nixon... then Reagan...
Marlboro vs Winston
Bud vs Coors, and there was
that TVcommercial with the American Indian guy with the trash thrown at his feet.

No one ever talks about really great fly lines any more.

The ONLY reason to fish with a fly rod in Texas
is to throw a POPPER, casting any other type fly just means you're doing something.

I want to build a brim rod that weighs less than 1.5 ounces.(and is a castable length, like 6 foot or longer)
I've got a closet full of rods built in the 60's,70's, and 80's Steve-p-

About 20 years ago I decided to build my first rod. It was a Sage 389 gaphite II blank. I did it specifically to fish the Bighorn and all the smaller fare I threw there.
The first real beneifit to building my own rods was I could make the cork handle larger in diameter. I have large hands and it is easier on them throughout the day. Since then I have built some 9 additional rods all with larger handles. Now it is hard for me to truely enjoy factory rods and their smaller handles.
I have been using Dennis Freeman at Rodmakers to buy everything I need and build my rods at his place. He also makes custom rods to your specifications.

I've decided over the last year to lose weight so instead of See Food, Eat Food, it's see fly rod, buy fly rod. If I like it and can afford it, I buy it!!! AND, it's helped to make me healthier!!! banana
