Haven't been on this site in forever. Just getting back to fishing after a few months.
I tried for trout at Tom Bass I last week and didn't get a bite. Any advice or tips for Tom Bass park in pearland? We were there earlier this week and we didn't get any bites either. They are supposed to be stocking it tomorrow so if it isn't too rainy, I'm planning to check it out after work. Otherwise, will try on Saturday. That pond has gotten really shallow and I have found it hard to fish the last couple of times we've been. Hope things improve. Also - the big pond/lake at Tom Bass 3 is supposed to get stocked next week with around 2000. Looking forward to trying that one as well. Ya I'll be there Saturday I think to try it out as well. And will definitely hit the big pond. The big pond is wayyyy low, the pier is closed because of of. Last spring I killed the catfish at the small pond. Noway all of them were stockers (atleast from this year). Most were in the 20" range. But after spring I can't seem to get a catfish bite.

I caught a 3.5lber about a month back that was stocked. Fought like a 5lb. bass January is a big month in our area for stocked trout. Trinity Park is scheduled for January 2 and River Park for January 3. These will be small TPWD trout. January 17th (not January 12th which I posted earlier. Sorry about that.) is big trout day by TRWD for River Park. Hopefully the TRWD guy will not have another Goat Rope like this year's Trinity Park stocking. I cannot imagine what he was thinking. Roping off the handicapped pier was not cool. And January 14 is the next stocking day for the pond where you caught the big trout. They will be small TPWD trout.

I called the hatchery - they actually stocked it yesterday with 112. Looks like I will be heading out there ASAP!! I will report back on how it goes. We caught quite a few catfish out of there over the summer during the Neighborhood Fishing program where it was stocked every couple of weeks. But, last time we went for catfish - around the end of August/early September, it was overgrown with algae and we got nothin.

Well, unfortunately, in spite of there being 100+ new ones added yesterday we caught zero. :-( We were there from around 3pm - 4 pm. It got really cold and windy and they just were not biting for us. Really didn't see anyone catching anything though there were several of us there. I think we are still going to try again tomorrow, though.
Also - very disappointed in both the Pearland Bass Pro and Academy. Went to both before going to fish and neither of them had any trout stuff (e.g. salmon eggs, Berkeley Power Bait). Sheesh!
We tried worms, corn, marshmallow, bread and these weird shrimp balls that kind of look like salmon eggs so I figured what the heck. None of them seemed to work today. I did pick up a superduper today, though. Didn't get a chance to try that but maybe tomorrow.

River Park is on the banks of the Trinity where it crosses under Bryant Irving Road. From I20 go north on Bryant Irving just past the Lockheed recreation area. River Park has a good place to fish because of a small dam. It is difficult to access by disabled persons or us old coots because of very steep banks. Two agencies stock the river. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department stocks on January 3rd with 2700 trout delivered by Possum Kingdom Hatchery from a stock of fish purchased from Crystal Lake Hatchery in Ava Missouri and held for distribution throughout the state. The real jewel is a stocking by Crystal Lake on January 17th which is paid for by Tarrant Regional Water District. This stocking will be January 17th.(not January 12th. Sorry about that.) This stocking will be 2500 trout much bigger than those stocked by TPWD. A 20 inch trout is not unheard of in those stockings done by Crystal Lake.

Thanks Smithaven. I think I will try my luck on the 4th and definately after the 17th. That is a lot closer than PK. The only downside is you are still in the city. Do you know if it gets crowded down there when they release?

Well, another bust at Tom Bass yesterday. Spent just over an hour there and no bites. Tried a super duper this time and my bro in law was using a rooster tail. All I caught was weeds - seemed to snag every cast. Switched over to bait - bread, worms and corn - and did no better. No one else seemed to be doing well either.
I'll keep trying, though. Really want my son to get to catch one. Think we will go to the big pond at Tom Bass 3 next weekend and see if our luck is better there.

Do you know if it gets crowded down there when they release? It will be elbow to elbow on release day. Most folks are pretty courteous though. Below the dam will not be crowded but it is for fly fishermen. Nobody will be on the south side by the Lockheed area.

The fishing was good at a lake in Amarillo last weekend. Went out yesterday with some biscuit dough (works best there) and the lake was mostly frozen over. Oh well, it'll thaw eventually...
