All is not fair in Love and Tuna fishing. There were some really awesome fishermen that fished hard and went home without YFT. Been there, done that. But on this particular trip lady luck was with me.... evidence the fish that broke off at the gaff after sounding and going under the boat. And then what happens? My line gets hung up in the wheel and the fish couldn't go anywhere and is then gaffed on the opposite side of the boat. I got my Maguroni back and everything ... whew! This was my second fish by 10 PM the first night.

And then there was the time Joseph, some of the Tuna Mafia and no telling who else had been casting hard for about an hour off the stern corner with no luck and then they decided to sit down and take a break. I walked up and on my second cast I hooked up. They just looked at me and said ..... "you're shi**ing me!"

those stern corners are where the magic happens wink i love gravitating back to one and working it over extremely well! nice job on the catching! I am all worked up reading about yalls trip!! LOL!

• 1/2 cup(s) (packed ) brown sugar
• 1/2 cup(s) bourbon whiskey
• 1/3 cup(s) soy sauce
• 2 tablespoon(s) lemon juice
• 1 tablespoon(s) Worcestershire sauce
• 2 or 3 table spoons of asian chili garlic sauce
• 1 full head of garlic, coarsely chopped
• 1 bunch of green onions, chopped
• 1 teaspoon(s) coarsely ground black pepper
• 1/4 teaspoon(s) hot pepper sauce
• 2 (1 1/2 pounds each) trimmed flank steaks or steak tri-tips (from Sam's Club)*

Directions
1. Prepare marinade: In jumbo self-sealing plastic bag (2 gallons), mix all ingredients except steaks.
2. Add steaks, turning to coat. Seal bag, pressing out excess air. Place bag in shallow glass baking dish and refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight (longer if desired, I’ve done up to 4 days), turning bag occasionally.
3. Remove steaks from marinade. Discard marinade. Place steaks on grill over medium heat and cook 15 to 20 minutes for medium-rare or until of desired doneness, turning once. (Or, preheat broiler and place steaks on rack in broiling pan. Broil steaks at closest position to source of heat 15 to 20 minutes for medium-rare.)
4. Transfer steaks to warm large platter, let stand 10 minutes for easier slicing. To serve, cut into thin slices.

Tips & Techniques
*Or, use 2 beef top round steaks, about 1 1/2 inches thick (about 1 1/2 pounds each). Follow recipe for flank steaks, but grill or broil 25 to 30 minutes for medium-rare or until of desired doneness.

thanks for the recipe, it was fantastic.

Joseph, when you pulled out that big 8" yellow Ron-Z,
I was thinking " can't get any worse" 10 minutes later you were coming around the bow in full bendo!
What a crazy trip!

Crazy indeed Brian that I wasn't even expecting to get hit. I was just kinda experimenting since the Arkansas tuna mafia guys were using the soft plastic swimbait.

the trip was awesome as usual but i couldn't buy a YFT bite to save my life... i also stood next to Mark and fished a sardine with a weight and would start mumbling every time the tuna would take his bait and leave the other 12 sardines that were floating in the drift alone... i think he was spitting on them or something wink oh well i have been on the other side of it as well... everything that was brought out to eat was great and the company was great as well...

Chunking/Sardines Scat Caters,

Would y'all care to elaborate what kind of reel/rod/line combos y'all used to catch the yellowfin tuna with the sardines. I'm looking for a mid-priced chunking/jigging combo and your input is most appreciated. Thanks.

I think you need 3 outfits: jigging, chunking and casting. Its a tool, and a special one. You can use for different purposes, but one is going to suffer. If money is an issue, skip casting, and concentrate on jigging and chunking.

Chunking: Penn Senator 6/0, with 60# mono over 80# spectra, on an Ugly Stik BWB 1160.

Jigging: Ugly Stik jigging rod (spin or conventional) and the reel of your choice (light and strong, needs to have 20# drag minimum and hold at least 300yds of 60/65# spectra).

Casting: Spheros 18000FB on Roddy Gatortail 60-80 7' spinning rod.

Cheapest you can get, and very comfortably land the fish.

Great info Jig! That chunking rig can be used for the bottom drop rod as well.

I will be posting some pics from the trip tommorrow night , been real busy during the holiday break and getting back to work. THANKS for the videos and I did not not mind eating the heart on this trip, wasn't the same kind of trip last year on the Pelican, a much better group of fisherman on this trip and it was just the thing to do after fishing so hard. I had a great time and cannot thank everyone involved enuf for showing me the ropes on the 36 hr and this trip. Really, a great time and the food was off the wall. I described it as a big camping trip on the water...LOL...with fish....Later, Billy
