Gloomis rods were sold by Gary back in1997, since then Gary has teamed with TFO and designed bass rods. TFO has 2 lines, the Signature series and the GTS Gary's tactical series. They are Gary's design and formula for making blanks with new new technology added. Designs and material have changed since 1997. So now you can own Gary's new design and quality using new technology at an AFFORDABLE price. And I love them!!! Wouldn't sell them if I didn't use them and love them.

They are the standard to which all other rods are compared. Ding Ding Ding. The cool thing about Loomis rods are that they have a Loomis blank. Oh, wait... It looks like they redesigned the GLX series and the guides are slightly different (still called 'recoil'). All the new GLX have split grips. I really liked the full grip but will give the new rods a try before I write them off.

My two bits, the Loomis GLX is simply the best rod out there with the best warranty. Pricy, yes; sensitive, yes! Worth the money for the serious fisherman.

Like was said Earlier......... Gary Loomis sold Gloomis rods long ago and he is not teamed with TFO. He OWNS North Fork Composites which builds rod blanks for Several companies. Kistler Zbones, TFO and a couple of others.
Gloomis rods are nothing more than a Shimano now.

I played with an NRX and absolutely loved it, I think there awesome, only problem with them is why the heck they didn't use all recoil guides. BUT due to a limited income they are WAY ourside my price range, 500 a pop hurts. And the year after they try NRX you see them coming out with lower priced options, the market balked at the price tag and not near as many sold. Still great rods, I have a buddy who used them exclusivly and I acadentaly pick up his rods as often as I can when in his boat lol.
That said I do plan on getting a Powertacle soon, they use the North Fork Composites blanks(Gary loomis's new company). I have only heard good things about them.

Gary loomis designs the rods for TFO, they are not gloomis rods. TFO has a great rod, other companies offer great selections as well. I spend my money at TFO because I don't have to spend huge amounts of money for a superior product, about 150$ give or take, and the warranty they have to stand by their product. Lifetime warranty if the rod breaks for any reason, fisherman error or not 35$ plus s&h and they will either fix or replace the replace the rod.

Seems to me like Shimano has really started pushing the lower priced models more these days and is leaning more to the "quantity over quality" side of business. I have fished Loomis rods for the past 8 to 10 years and absolutely love my GLXs (have not tried an NRX). With the recent increase in cost of the Xpeditor service, and the direction Shimano appears to be going with this product line, I may eventually phase them out. I will give it a few more years to see if they rebound, but if I have a rod break, it will more than likely get replaced by a Dobyns or PowerTackle.

I finally splurged a couple years ago for 2 GLX rods and the difference in sensitivity is definitely worth the extra money!!

Go with Power Tackle, best rod on the market now. Great Rod but not so great warranty Nothing wrong with there warranty. They just don't want to pay for every rod that was broke by rod locker, car door, stepping on them and so on b/c we all know its not the fishermans fault. Unlike Walmart and Academy they cost alittle more to build and don't give them away. You will soon see all rod company's will follow with the same. Check Loomis, Dobyns, St Croix etc...all have better warranties. I mentioned nothing about accidents. All manufactures have defects. The warranty at Power Tackle has the least amount of warranty for rod in that price range.

I currently have a total of 15 gloomis rods 13 of them glx and 2 nrx rods. My favorite two are the glx senko and the nrx jig. Doesn't get any lighter and sensitive than these. I will pitch my nrx jig rod all day.

Lots of info on above post. So many I couldn't chime in on just one. GLoomis is now owned by Shimano, TFO rods are designed by Gary. Great rods. I own older Power Tackle rods made with GLoomis blanks. Warranties should not be an issue if you take care of your equip. There are many rods out there made with GLoomis blanks. Very sensitive. Dobyns and Falcon rods are goods rods, but are not on the same level of higher end rods like GLoomis and Power Tackle. TFO. Rods would be my next rod of choice for price point and warranty. Lots of interest in Dobyns, but I don't care for the reel seats. I'm spoiled with my Power Tackle rods. Will find them difficult to replace!

All of the GLoomis rods are quality blanks. You only ever hear of the GLX's and NRX's because most people want the very best. If you ever pick up a mossy back or bronzeback you will see how light they are , and when you fish them how well they perform. They are still an expensive rod at over 200 a piece but are over shadowed by the GLX and NRX'S. You can always pick up a used one for under a 150. Give them an honest try and you will be quite surprised.

No,man. You can get GLX rods with a full cork grip. Vast model selection. Look at their website. You got a link? All I've seen are split grip GLX rods or full grip in the Mossyback series. They have a few short < or = 7' full grip listed in their Classic section. http://www.gloomis.com/I would love to be wrong.
