A good swim jig is specifically designed for the job and is balanced to run true during retrieve and ideally will have a bit of inherent action. A well designed arkie style jig will also work quite well over shorter distances and was the swim jig standard before there were actual "swim jigs" on the market.

Just about every tourney won,is with a Swimjig,here @ Lay! 1/4 ounce Dirty Jig,Blk and Blue...Pumped thru the grass,and can be fished like a Frog...

I love the Strike King Swim Jigs. and at times have really Whacked'em on them.
