if you have never tried Conroe you are missing some of the best Black Crappie action I have ever fished. That lake is coming on strong with great crapie averging 13" and they are some of the fattest I have ever seen.

My mom caught an 18.5 inch and I caught a 18 inch crappie on Texoma on the same day within an hour. Mine was caught in a foot of water and hers was in 10 ft in our boat slip. no idea on weight though.

If you need a scale to weigh those 18 to 20+ " fish, you need to go to the USPS website. They have a 10# digital scale that is perfect for crappie and very accurate. cost is about $40 total. I got one and put it in a zip lock bag so if or when I get a potential record I can at least know if it truly is close enough to go find a certified scale. It's hard to find a fish scale that is accurate down at crappie weight.

Bob, when you posted that you got the scale, I went to lookin and I found a different brand that weighs upto 15# just a little cheeper with free shipping. I hadn't thought of taking it on the boat but that sounds like a good idea. It would be especially useful in a CAT Tournament when it comes time to cull. Thanks for the idea.

I think the current state record Black Crappie is 3.93 lbs. looks like another record fish may have been eaten. Just saying.

the mans name is stan .....he dont bs , he caught it way back when on cut bait fishin for catfish ...... he dont crappie ketch .... not ALL people give a you know about lake records and state records ......some just "ketch" for fun and the freezer ..... but it does always impress me when i see a record and know people who caught bigger fish and yes i bet they ate it ,,,,,, as a matter of fact if i wasnt showing him some pictures i would have never known , i showed him a blacknose i caught up here in ft. worth and asked him if he ever saw one like that .... and he smiled real big and said YES ...... "i caught one of those fishin for catfish at lake X " he said they weighed it because he thought it was a pretty huge crappie ....i will find out the exact weight today ....i was pretty shocked when he said how much it weighed , not very many 4 + fish out there in my opinion..... ps ....i think its actually 3.92 just saying

For a 2lb fish tawakoni catch them all the time. For a 3# fish Fork I have been crappie fishing tawakoni for 10 years and have caught only 2 that went in the low 3# range, but countless 2 #ers. Seen a lot come out of fork havent caught any, but witnessed several. I hear palestine is a pretty good big fish lake to.
