I have to be honest, I never heard of a Spinnerbait breaking. I doubt seriously that the braid had anything to do with it, however I never use braid for spinnerbaits. If they are breaking, I can only imagine they mightve fail due to rust at that point. I wouldn't imagine "tuning" the wire would make it break either. You would have to bend it back and forth several time to create enough heat to fatigue that wire. I really can't imagine this happening although it has happened to you more than once. How many times have you been stuck by lightning? Just kidding.

The majority of my spinnerbait fishing is done for river smallies in the shallow rivers of NW PA. They are very violent fish that will destroy baits. As far as not using quality products go, I have broke Terminators, Heavy Covers, Flatlands, Santones, Lucky Crafts, and about any other brand you can think of. I am beginning to think my problem is caused by the combination of the heavier rod and braid not causing any "give".

Over the years I have had quite a few spinnerbaits break. Most of the time it has been after catching a few fish on one and having to straighten the wire back out.

no problems with braid, buy a better quality blade like a war eagle or talon. I love the War Eagle spinnerbaits but I have found that they break more than any other one that i throw. I still throw them more than any other bait but I watch them close. I have started throwing that Stanley bait and like it a bunch and it is half the price too.

Over the past couple years I have had several different brand spinnerbaits break on me at the line tie area. Some of these spinnerbaits had only a couple fish to their credit, others were well used. My question is: Is the fact that I use 30lb braid and a MH rod making this happen more often? Would I be better off to use flourocarbon because of the additional stretch? Even with mono the tempered wire spinners will break after some use. When I use to nite fish with the hildebrant go getter's I could only get 14 bass off one bait before breaking. So I made my own out of non-tempered wire.

Obviously you have never caught many fish on a spinner bait. 2 years ago at Falcon I had 6 broken spinnerbaits laying in the bottom of my boat after 10 days of fishing.

Maybe they're more prone to break but I really like WarEagle. They're the only spinnerbait I throw that always seem to run true-other spinnerbaits I'm constantly bending and tweaking the top wire to get them to run straight.

I use 50 lb powerpro on mine because I throw them deep into to soup. Ive only broken one. I dont leave them laying hung on lilly pads though. It must be the lightning strike causing your body to exude copious quantities of acidic fluids that transfer from your fingertips to the steel of the spinnerbait arm. Use rubber gloves...

You know the old saying
If it floats, flys, or f___s it is always cheaper to rent!
You have to decide which is more important.

I don' think it has anything to do with the line being used. I think it is all in the wire. Tempered wire can become very brittle and break pretty easy.

I am a spinner bait fanatic and throw one probably 50% of the time and on 100% of my trips I use one some amount. My preference is and always has been Stanley spinner baits. Over the years I have broken probably 30-40 spinner bait wires. It usually happens when I swing a fish into the boat and the fish is flopping. I also build custom spinner baits and have had this happen to them also. I normally use heavy mono (25#) but have fished 80# braid down in Mexico and can tell no difference in breakage.

Hooking a fish with a SB on braid must be one heck of a bite!.
