Been working on my jig fishing lately. Just wondering if anybody used these. I use them religiously in the winter and by prespawn I switch back to plastics till the lake goes cold again. I never believed in doing it this way till I noticed my bites increase while jig fishing with pork as opposed to plastics.

I don't know the reason why the bass seem to like the pork more than the plastic in cold water, but I've read that the plastics move differently than the pork and apparently the way the pork moves in cold water is closer to how real things move in cold water. Plastics are basically too active and springy for the cold water bass but this is just what I read.

Same here-I start throwing it in Nov until about March.
I believe the fish hold onto pork longer than plastic.

Cold water I use pork. Less action more realistic looking in the cold water.

Pork : Fish seem to hold on to it better, it provides buoyancy to slow a jigs descent, better action behind the jig and in cold water it's always pliable. Plastic : gives more colors to match jig skirts, more new chunk designs for bigger or smaller profiles, new cuts have alot of action. Pork can sometimes wad up on the hook and cause you to miss fish on the hook set, not so much with plastic and pork will dry out. Pork or Plastic ?????? Yes I still use pork, mainly in colder weather and early spring.

I like pork better than plastic in colder water also. It slows the fall down and stays soft. But don't sell it short year round. Not saying plastic isn't usually a better choice in warmer water, but pork will work year round. This thread has some pics of old pork for those oof you who are interested. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/7705530/Re_About_my_name#Post7705530

I like a big bait for big bass! Uncle Josh black or blue pork frog in the largest size I can find...coupled with a black 5/8 ounce jig with large black rubber skirt.
****Sun sinking low....lines baited.....gentle south breeze blowing...you realize.........I AM! .
