Yes. I took a friend to an area a few years ago while I was prefishing for a tournament. We caught quite a few fish. I even commented that I bet I would catch a good one if I threw into one particular spot on tournament morning. Then I told him I was leaving the area because I didn't want to catch all my fish the week before the tournament.

Guess what? He left a voicemail that he had gone back to that lake...and that spot...twice during the week and had WHACKED 'em. Oh, and he threw into THAT spot and caught a five pounder. I couldn't figure out which I felt more, anger or disbelief that a friend would actually do that.

It's made me really careful who I take when I'm prefishing for a tournament. Usually I just go by myself.

Me and couple of buddies that I fished with the most had an understanding, whoever found the hole was entitled to it. If we all fished in a tournament aganisnt each other, it was just understood, you stay out of each others spots.

However, if you missed the tournament your spots then became open game.

I think that behavior is "potlicking". "Bent rod" is another boat seeing you catch a fish and moving in on you.

And I know who "Jeff" is.

How did you "find" the spot?
Are you the only one to ever fish it?

This is the reason I like to fish alone, no water is "off limits" to me this way.

If you don't want your friends or partner fishing there don't take them. Why would you take them and wack the fish and not expect them to go back? I take guys to my spots and if they are there I either fish b/c we are friends or I move on no reason to get pissed "Unless" he brings other guys there.

It's better to have more than one hole and better not to fish a spot heavily leading up to a tourney.

Figured that conversation should have happened the same day yall were fishing together. "Are you fishing the T next week?"

I have taken fellow competitors to the lake, showed them things and vice versa. A little communication goes a long way. I usually have no issue with that person fishing a spot on T day that I showed them, if they communicate that to me and let me also fish the area I am fine with it. But to each his own.

I guess when it gets down to it, everyone that's ever bass fished has done the same thing, so I guess when you actually show someone a spot you should talk about ground rules, and obviously people that pass by can do what they want. It's a vicious circle.

Yep what he said...

The rule is when a friend shows you a spot always say "Oh yea I've fished here before I used to whack'em here all the time back in the day" LOL
