Like Todd said, the dues cover the cost of the sites for tournies, hats, shirts, decals, kegs... He wasn't saying we had to have them.

Chris you made some great points. That said, there are some real differences between AKF and here. When you guys get together, it's always about bass fishing. Here we're a lot more democratic. Some of the best, most respected anglers on this board are not interested in bass fishing in the slightest. As a result, when we have get togethers/events organized through this forum, we choose sites mainly because they're centrally located and they can accomodate large scale demos. Many venues are rejected or not even considered because they're too far from Fort Worth, say, or not good for white bass, or etc... Places like the LBJ grasslands, Mill Creek, Lake Bryson, Eisenhower State Park, areas of the Brazos, Fork, heck maybe even Caddo or Ivie could be venues if you run it with the emphasis on the fishery more than the parking and accommodations... They would be bad choices for the fall GTG, but would make sense for 15-20 guys who want to get together for the best in bass fishing our area has to offer. When we say 'meetings' we mean 'meetings at lakes where we fish' with maybe a five minute hackey sack discussion about what to do next time.

And Brazos Paddler if we did this, it could just be some guys fishing together. But it could be more too. It would all depend on what those guys fishing together wanted it to be...

Great explanation!

Thanks for the explanation. I was just curious, since I know nothing about bass clubs.

Seems to me, though, the more money and rules that are involved, the more drama your liable to encounter. Sounds like fun, though.

Not really, it depends on the members.

Howdy yall, I haven't been on here in a while but I saw this and thought is chime in. I've been an officer in several clubs in college and was, thinking about starting a yakkers bass club here at UT Arlington. This really wouldn't be hard to put together, just remember a few things, to get a bass angler to take a crowbar and pry open his wallet for something besides tackle will take a 100% unanimous vote on what dues pay for, tourneys should be well thought out and voted on, meetings would be easiest if they were done during a fishing outing. Trips could be made if they were well planned at least 4 to 6 months in advance. Politics can ruin a club quick. You only really need a few "officers, a bank account and some sort of website or dedicated thread on a forum that is easy to access. After all that's organized you ,oils easily find people/companies to sponsor big events for prizes and all. You could even do a fundraiser like the casting for a cause event.

Just food for thought to go along with all the other ideas. What about just a “fishing club” that recognizes more than bass fishing. Like a tournament on crappie fishing or cat fishing at night and so on. More than anything I feel that will entertain more interest to this sport/club. We could call it “fishers of men”

Here's an idea.

How about a bunch of guys that fish the same lake just communicate on a fishing forum and just meet up on a certain lake on Saturday mornings when most are off work.
There isn't any type of formal meetings, or club officers to elect, and no dues to pay, you just show up and fish, and exchange ideas by sharing information and just shooting the bull and catching fish.

I really think it would work, but I could be wrong!

I agree with this. Just get together and fish. Nothing formal is needed IMO. I think it'd be cool if there were a set schedule. Say every other Saturday, we all get together and just fish. It's a hassle sometimes trying to find a group to tag along with. Most friends I know outside of TFF don't yak fish.
