Gutcheck and I where discussing the idea of a "Kayak Bass Club" while taking a break from the death sun at Fork yesterday. So let us hear your thoughts. We both agreed there has to be at least several people to run it , it's way to much for one person to run.Important for it to stay FUN!! and not become work. Things to consider: how many officers(can't think of a better term sorry) dues? (if yes how much?) name meetings are "Purdy Poppers" legal Thoughts fellow Bass yakkers?

I think you'll need 2-3 officers, that have set in stone jobs. You'll need to decide what the dues will pay for. I would like to see some kind of club in N Texas where we could get together every 2 weeks or so. I'm new, but would like to fish different lakes, but don't know the launches or other things.. where to catch ect.
How about Kayak Katchers Chuck

Calling a sport Ghey isnt cool unless in the privacy of your glitter boat.

what would the fee's go towards? Towards "mother ship fees" to access the big monsters out in the ocean. Can anyone say Sleigh-rides? LOL!!

I think the easiest thing to do is look at other clubs and kind of pick apart their bylaws or whatever and take different parts that you like from other clubs, and first develop by laws or rules and then determine how many "officers" you think is needed. IMHO

what would the fee's go towards? Craft supplies and a daquiiri machine... Ninja's vision of this club is one part bass fishing, one part scrapbooking/lure making... You seen his latest work?

Seriously though, let's get this started... I think the idea of meeting every two weeks might be too much, but once a month sounds cool to me... I don't come from a bass boat pedigree like many of you, so I've never been in a club, but C Frog's idea of looking at other clubs and seeing how they're run makes sense to me. Personally what I'd like to see is a once-a-month get together with emphasis on fishing new lakes, with decisions voted on at the meetings. Not a huge fan of internet votes because a lot of times a big percentage of the people who vote or have strong internet opinions about these things don't even end up showing up. I do like Grapevine, but we fish there enough as it is...

Careful. Keep the politics out of it and it will be all good!

Sounds good. I've been in a bass boat club before. How often do you want to do tourneys? Pretty much the meetings are for voting on which lake is the next tourney. Dues go toward a meeting place, end of year prizes, club bumper stickers....

what would the fee's go towards? Towards "mother ship fees" to access the big monsters out in the ocean. Can anyone say Sleigh-rides? LOL!! LOL....why would a bunch of lake fishermen want to ocean fish?? LMAO The reason I ask is because many people do not want to "pay" to fish. Several people get into kayak fishing because it's a cheaper alternative than glitter boats. Aside from launch fees and travel....there are no other real expenditures aside from tackle (which both aspects have). I've also never been in a fishing club, so not sure how all that logistical stuff works. I could see where putting the fees towards a trip could be an incentive, but what if only 80% of the group agree on the trip location? Let's say fee's went towards an annual trip to Falcon. Some people might refuse to fish there because they feel it's unsafe (I personally feel safe every trip...but that's me). Then they might feel like the dues they paid were not spent in a manner that benefited everyone. Or what if everyone did agree on a location but not everyone was available to take off work? Just food for thought I guess. Secondly, I agree that politics need to be left as far away as possible.....just get's too sticky. Thirdly, I would recommend making it an atmosphere around friendship and love of the sport. Around here, our local series is awesome because we are all friends. Most of us share info and fish together several times per year aside from tournaments. Several of the kayak guys as well fish the powerboat tourny's (me included). I think if a club atmosphere was ever formed and it lost that competitive smack talking friendship we have currently....it would no longer be fun. Meetings are cool and all.....but monthly would be better than bi-weekly. Remember that the members then have to schedule time outside of their working hours and away from their family to attend. Then once there....it needs to be impactful. What does impactful mean? Well to some groups that would be to sit down and drink a few cold ones and talk fishing and future events of all sorts (volunteer, tourny, trainings...). To other groups "impactful is going to mean a structured meeting where you vote on stuff and perhaps have a speaker..? That's where you would need to feel out the interested group and see what everyone wanted. Also....perhaps some of the club dues could go towards nice club jerseys? Just kicking out some thoughts....

All great thoughts guys. Keep it coming. Maybe dues is something after it gets rolling good? or dues may never be needed, its not a factor to me.
