rhetorical question: I wonder which is better, or worse, the extra knots to add a swivel or the line abrasion from a split shot -- assuming you DO know how to tie knots and crimp slit-shot correctly.

Use a bobber stop and just fold the splitshot over. Don't crimp it down so tight you turn it into a pancake. It will slide a little but that's what the bobber stop is for.

When fishing for BIG bass in S. Texas, I will always believe that 1 knot is better than 3.

Use a black swivel though so the perch won't peck the shiney brass ones. And JUST a swivel not a SNAP and SWIVEL.

Good advice on the black swivel, I figured this one out fishing for smallies, perch hit the brass swivel nearly everytime, thought they where hitting the grub, but after a brake-off I tied on a black swivel, and they never touched it again. thumb
