Article from TPWD http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/pwdpubs/media/pwd_br_t3200_1429.pdfExcerpt Once caught, large carp may be handled with care, photographed, and then released. How ever, carp under 10 pounds can be good eating if prepared properly. Deep-fat frying, baking, smoking, pressure-cooking, chowdering, and pickling are methods that can be used to prepare carp for the table.
I tend to over think fishing. Please help me. When I am over complicating something please kick me in the face. Hard.

Again, he released the fish back in the water.
I was there and I saw it with my own eyes.

I agree, I think WE get a bit passionate about our fish of choice. I was impressed that TPWD had that PDF posted. Many (but not close to all) have come a long way to seeing things differently.
I can't really complain too much though, I once thought that carp were a vile invasive fish.

Aside from how the Game Warden handled fish I can say that some carp fishermen handle them equally as bad! On the importance of fish care putting a large fish in a retaining sack and leaving it at the lake is certainly worse than holding it as the Warden is.

people to this day still eat carp and buffalo. http://joetessplace.com/"It's as simple as that. Joe Tess Place began as a neighborhood tavern in the 1930s. The main attraction became the Famous Fish Sandwich itself. Cut carp portions were fried in a skillet, placed in a cookie jar and sold for 15 cents. Ever since, the humble carp has been the driving force behind Joe Tess Place. From its simple beginnings, Joe Tess Place is now a successful family restaurant in the tradition of friendly service and high quality fresh fish products."

Let me repost, the biologist cradled the fish like a little baby and ask a young man on the bank if he would like to have it. He then gently wrapped it a fine silk blanket and iced it down.
The fish is now feeding a starving family of orphans that live down by the river in a tent.
