I've been married for almost 13 years and one thing I've learned is that you aren't going to prove anything to your wife. It doesn't matter if you present the best argument, supported by absolute facts; you can't win. been married almost 25 years--haven't been "right" yet. You only need as many as she is comfortable with you buying. And yes, she needs 117 pairs of shoes.

A little too much info about you and your partner. My partner and I have won a few times with only one or two poles...once you are confident in something, keep working it and keep your bait wet.

Looks like you've got your answer...over 70% say 6+ rods.
Heck I don't tourney fish and I've always got at least 5 on the deck. My wife of 34yrs kept asking me why so many until she went with me a few times and now 'gets it' that bass fishing usually requires a lot of adaptation if you want to catch any. She only wants to use one rod but a lot of the time she won't fish until I've found 'em or a pattern that seems to work.

LOL no wonder I can`t cash a check When I get in and it looks like there is no room to stand on the deck because there are so many rods out that means it was tough and I couldn't find what they wanted. If there is a couple out I did ok
