Whats the difference from keeping a 2lber in the spawn, or a 2lber in summer. If u keep that 2lb fish in summer (assuming its.a female), isnt it going to keep that fish from spawning the next spring.

I've heard of a catfish thing called CPR over 10 lbs, Catch Picture and Release because any catfish over 10 lbs I heard doesn't taste too great and I got a trip on Lavon with Capt. Larry and he told me that too because he wants to let them grow and keep going after the lake record

I don't keep fish very often but If I caught a big fish (not very often) its going on the stringer. I think releasing the females does absolutely nothing to better the population. It's kind of like keeping only males during the spring because they don't have eggs. The females cant reproduce by themselves last time I checked.

+1. The bigger fish are probably near end of life cycle anyway ( 15+ " fish).
i agree, and a 2+ lber has already spawned several times, so the good genes are passed on.

Great minds think alike. thumb

Big catfish don't taste very good. If you read up on it a catfish can live to be 35 years old. So the bigger ones are pretty tough and the fat in ingained in the meat.

With the exception of Ops. Anything over 2 pounds is a release fish for me.

I'm lucky enough to get to fish at least every other weekend. Take PICS of the big fish, and toss them back. I keep two messes of fish in the freezer. Insures fresh fish at every fish fry. We have fish a couple times per month. The benefits of being retired. cheers

I'll keep them up to 14"s, above that... take a picture and let them go.

Sorry fella's but I keep all legal crappies. I don't fish enough to keep the freezer stock and I love the taste of crappies. The state sets limits for a reason. I can understand throwing them back if you fish alot and the freezer is full. Neither is the case for me.

I'm still working on the "catching" part.
