Put them in the fridge! The colder they are the better. You can keep them up to a week in a fridge! agreed

Just say NO to minNOw and learn to fish a jig. They work better for lower pay and never go belly up on ya. Wish I could agree!!!!!! Corks, hooks, and weights are ALOT cheaper than all the dang Bobby Garland and SlabBandits I have!!!!!! Fishing aint cheap unless you have a cane pole!!

Dude you need to learn how to care for your minnows. Get yourself a 5 gallon bucket and aerator. Fill it with rain or creek water and place it in a shady spot. You will then have a place to store your minnows overnight or the leftovers after a trip.Freeze some soda bottles filled with water and drop them in the minnow tank when the weather gets warm. Change your water out over 3 days or so and you will never have to worry about running out of bait. I typically fish jigs but I never leave for a trip without minnow bucket.

Well I just made it back from Choke. First of all, thanks again to all of the advice. Grain, will definitely do that next time. My buddy and I get to calliham a little after 7am and the first thing I do is grab a dead minnow, hook him under the dorsal about 2' from the bobber, cast it in about 3' in front of me and a second didn't go by when BAM! 3.5 lb largemouth! It was on like donkey kong baby! Fished till 2 and ended up with 2 whites, 3 lmb, and...........drumroll please, .........my limit of crappie! All on freakin dead minnows! Gotta love it! Man I'm sorry, but I had a great day! Tried jigging but obviously there is much to be learned on my part. Thank you guys so much! Feeling like Nacho Libre in the end saying, "Yes! Yes!"

Man I am glad you had a great day on the water. I would never have the confidence to fish with dead minnows.

I have pics on my phone but have trouble uploading them. I'll keep trying though. Morning hrs was the frenzy and I also caught a few small crappie, bass, and catfish that were throwbacks. I lost quite a few really good ones too. Something would play with the minnow and the bobber would pop and move and then suddenly go under so when I would try to set the hook, nothing. Still learning. Week before my son and I caught 14 sandies, 22 crappie, and 7 big largemouths. That was an awesome day cause my son and I got to share that day together.

jvela the best thing to do is get you some goldfish or rosey red minnows from Petsmart. They're cheaper than minnows last longer on your hook. You can buy them the day before and put them in a 5 gallon bucket fill it up half way with water and they wont die over night. They cost 1.56 a dozen and with a reward card you sometimes get them at 1.32 a dozen. I used to pay 2.00-2.75 a dozen for minnows at a baitshop. Give it a try.
