Going to fish for crappie tomorrow and was curious about using dead minnows. Have called all local baitshops and everyone is out. Found only one place that had a few medium sized minnows so I bought them all. Now half are belly up and I don't think the other half will make it through the night. How would you guys suggest using dead minnows? Also have some jigs but have never "truly" learned how to jig. Need some pointers if you guys wouldn't mind!

I would just jig fish. I have caught fish on dead minnows before but not day old minnows.

use them just keep them in water so they dont dry out, but pinch the head off and rig it on a jig head under a bobber, u dont even have to work the bobber just let it sit there. if the crappie are there they will bite.

Crappie it's what's for dinner!

If they are in spawn mode they will be aggressive to anything invading their space. If they do not bite after a few minutes you have to chase the bite, aka FA's advice, jigs.

When your live minnows are struggling, put a cap full of hydrogen perxiode in the minnow bucket. Do this twice a day. It oxgenates the water. Also be sure to remove the dead minnows from the bucket. Don't put tap water in the bucket, the clorine will kill the minnows.

Put them in the fridge! The colder they are the better. You can keep them up to a week in a fridge!

Just say NO to minNOw and learn to fish a jig. They work better for lower pay and never go belly up on ya.

Slice them in half. As an earlier post said. Use the head. Thru the eyes. Take the lower 1/2, hook thru the thick part, under the dorsal. Jigg it, or let it dift. Mke sure you leave the guts in it.
Good-Luck

Man, you guys are the best! Not sure about that minnow sandwich though, think I'll pass on that one bud. Gonna have a bobber out with minnows and have another in hand jigging. Got me blk/chart and chart/white jigs. Also got some pinks as well.
