Good info -
I heard on the radio the supply and demand was an excuse.....since demand was at it's all time low.
One reason they stated - cars and trucks are getting better milage than in the past...same for boats too (thank goodness my EFI blew up a few years ago)! They said the demand wasn't there like they claimed.
Kind of made sense..... Demand is based on a worldwide market, not just what we do here in the US. The Asian markets are the driver in oil usage and we are just along for the ride.

If we announced that we were going to start new drilling (Gulf, Alaska etc) It would not take long at all for it to cause a drop in Oil prices. Once we start pumping oil from new sites you will see a definite drop in oil prices. For those that think Exxon makes such obscene amounts of money, have you ever stopped to really look at how big Exxon is? Might also consider they make money around the world, not just in the US.

check the US oil export status. You might be surprised what you see. Speculators are the cause of the gas prices.

Could you be a litte more specific mehall? The US is a net importer of crude oil and a net exporter of refined products.

+1. I'm not a guide, but I've had 5 fiberglass boats in my life and just got an 18 foot aluminum with a 90HP Opti and I'm loving it! Smile every time I fill up the 12 gallon tank...ran all over Caddo during a tournament last weekend and burned 1/4 of a tank. Guides may want to start thinking about using smaller outboards that get better fuel economy. You don't need to run 60-70 mph to catch or find fish. The best guide I've ever been with use to run a center console with a 115 HP motor.

If voting republican, or democrat for that matter, is all it took to solve the problems we would be living in 'heaven' by now. Both have had PLENTY of turns at the trough,....so to speak. The fact is........blah, blah, blah.....
Oh yeah, guides are going to hold their fees constant until they're just barely breaking even. Then, they will keep on doing it just for the fun of it. Or maybe, we will be so benevolent that we will increase and increase our tips in order to get them back into the black, and profitability..... And, they lived happily after after....
Are we so busy fishing that we haven't noticed what's really going on? Have you ever noticed that not all problems have solutions? Bass fishing is for recreation, so I have to constantly ask myself, am I having fun now? I'm planning on Dunlap, thursday and friday. Will the water be too murky/muddy?
Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

This is a fishing forum not a political forum. I only want your fishing opinions and information. I don't want your political opinions, I can make up my own political mind and live with which ever way the final outcome of the majority is, even if it differs from my ideals. Let's keep the politics out of and off of this site. Thanks. +1 it's about the fishing

Sorry, who made you the boss? Sometimes there are political ramifications that have an effect on fishermen and fish. Not sure you have to be the boss to have an opinion. No opinions, is that next?

@ Fouzman: I'm not trying to be the boss. I understand that there are political ramifications to everything we all do in life. I just don't think we need to express pro-Democrat or pro-Republican or pro- whatever or anti-Democrat or anti-Republican or anti-whatever on this type of forum. If I wanted that type of discussion I would go elsewhere. There are plenty of sites for any of those political ideals. When any issue becomes a political football there are lots of fumbles. I would just prefer fumble around fishing more than politics. By the way maybe you ought to review your quotation. In the end that's all I'm saying.

Thanks, prop. I agree with the R vs. D argument. What I don't agree with is saying leave politics out of it when politics have a place in the discussion. In this case, unfortunately, politics do come into play.
Kind of hard to discuss gas prices without the other.

Kind of hard to discuss gas prices without the other. +1, I was wondering where this thread was going. As it is, March 20 is official "free access to the bunker" day. Anyway, I think most guides would be like Ronnie and the others who posted. They're not going to stop running around because cause prices are high. They're in the fish-catching business. Guides aren't cheap. If a customer feels like the guide isn't doing what he can to put you on fish, I don't think he'll be back. As for all the bunker talk, I'm a moderate replublican and I'll vote that way most of the time, but I'm not sure if anyone who's dumb enough to become a politician is smart enough to fix our problems.

The shame is that we are an exporter of gasoline. The world market determines the price. Regardless of whether the oil comes from beneath the USA or somewhere else in the world, it will be sold at market prices. I have been in the oil business for 34 years and can't really see a viable answer to fuel costs. 'Speculators' make the prices am I correct? They guess we would have trouble in the Middle East and they hit us with high prices..... So that is what I hear..... What would you speculate on if it's being drilled under your feet? No crazy Saudi's running around here.... I just want to know more about this and your thoughts..... I think it's what is holding our country back right now. Speculators do cause fluctuation in the market but then supply vs demand brings it back in line. The oil that comes right from under your feet will be refined and sold to the highest bidder (world market) The best hope for lower fuel prices would be a slowing of the Chinese economy. Being in the business, I would love to see drilling opened up in the US as it would provide jobs and a certain amount of stability but I'm afraid that it will have little effect on what you & I pay at the pump. CMACK for the win. Oil is a commodity and commodities are bought and sold. So if it makes more profit to sell our oil, well guess what.....

Guides can deduct the cost of gas on taxes and write off mileage (which goes up as gas goes up) on a truck when pulling the boat. So, the bottom line isn't as bad as it looks. I don't like the idea of having my truck on the other side of the lake. You never know when something will break down or weather will change. So I will trailer instead of running to the other side of the lake. But that isn't because of gas prices. The truth is - if I'm burning a tank of gas, its because the fish aren't biting. Running all over the lake isn't going to make them bite. If I can't catch em in Glade, running to Birch isn't going to change things. But that doesn't mean I won't do it in desperation. If I'm burning a ton of gas, chance are - I'm grasping for straws. I counted 32 places I've launched a boat on Lake Fork. So there's no reason for me to make 15-20 mile runs.
