Very simple. If gas prices stay high, the guides will raise their rates.

Any guide who limits the amount of running they do because of gas prices isn't getting my money.

You nailed it brother! I ASSURE you, the Lake Fork guides will still work hard for our customers no matter how much gas is. We are in the fish catching buisness and that's what we'll do!

The shame is that we are an exporter of gasoline. The world market determines the price. Regardless of whether the oil comes from beneath the USA or somewhere else in the world, it will be sold at market prices. I have been in the oil business for 34 years and can't really see a viable answer to fuel costs.

wait till obamas 1%banking fee hits, thats 1% in and 1% out.
dont laugh at the 2%. most buisiness only clear after all expenses 5-7% of total
2k$ per 100k$ in volume
off the top
it will put some out of buisiness, those barley hanging on will be gone.
i friend of mine sold a mower at a reduced price, $600 net on a $9k mower, customer paid with a discover . when he got his statment, they charged him $585.00 . customer got $90 cashback.
dealer made $15.00 net
just suck it up?
just wondering do u still think its ok for card companys to charge us what they want. normal 3-5% processing and more for promotinal cards.

'Speculators' make the prices am I correct? They guess we would have trouble in the Middle East and they hit us with high prices.....

So that is what I hear.....

What would you speculate on if it's being drilled under your feet? No crazy Saudi's running around here....

I just want to know more about this and your thoughts.....

I think it's what is holding our country back right now.

Gas prices were higher in the summer of 2008 than now.. I believe a different adminstration was in charge then, so it doesn't seem to matter. We survived that one maybe we can again..

If your buddy got charged $585, that is 6.5%. NO credit card vendor charges that amount. He needs to look into that transaction. The norm is about $.25-.30/transaction (flat fee) plus 3-4% of amount charged. He should have been charged around $300.

Finally! Someone who pays attention! The president does not set oil prices people.

Speculators do cause fluctuation in the market but then supply vs demand brings it back in line. The oil that comes right from under your feet will be refined and sold to the highest bidder (world market) The best hope for lower fuel prices would be a slowing of the Chinese economy. Being in the business, I would love to see drilling opened up in the US as it would provide jobs and a certain amount of stability but I'm afraid that it will have little effect on what you & I pay at the pump.

Good info -

I heard on the radio the supply and demand was an excuse.....since demand was at it's all time low.

One reason they stated - cars and trucks are getting better milage than in the past...same for boats too (thank goodness my EFI blew up a few years ago)! They said the demand wasn't there like they claimed.

Kind of made sense.....

I must have stumbled into the bunker. grin

Politicians dont complain about Ipads because it is not a necessity in the current environment to earn a living. Gasoline for almost everyone is. Want vs Need.

Fork Guides and most guides everywhere will do what they can to put people on fish. Agree with Fouz, Cody and Ronnie here. They'll get it done, smarter and harder.

We've all been paying higher for gas this year over last but not as high as 2008. They are looking at 4 different bills in Congress right now to force speculators to have at least 12% of their own money in the commodity. Currently they can have nothing.

Back to fishing. If guide prices go up and you don't want to pay it, don't. There will be people who will see the value of the service. It might weed out a few folks who wont work hard for clients but I didnt get a raise this year (no one did here) and my insurance cost doubled. I make less money now than last year. Does that mean I dont come to work? Nope. Just work harder and make a little extra on the side when I can.
And I have already gone on one guide trip this year and need to get on the books for this summer with Cody.

This is a fishing forum not a political forum. soap I only want your fishing opinions and information. fish I don't want your political opinions, I can make up my own political mind and live with which ever way the final outcome of the majority is, even if it differs from my ideals. flag Let's keep the politics out of and off of this site. 2cents Thanks.

Sorry, who made you the boss? Sometimes there are political ramifications that have an effect on fishermen and fish.
