No receipt after one day probably is what did it. Save your receipts at least for a while.

Maybe they get nervous about folks without receipts because of these type of guys. I'm not beating up on him, at least he was honest enough to get on here and ask. But I'm sure there's plenty of folks taking advantage of the system without worrying about moral implications.

Exactly, Patriot. And guys buying broken rods from folks for a couple bucks and exchanging them for a new one. It only takes a few bad apples to ruin it for all of us. If I were BPS, Academy or any other retailer, I would tighten up my exchange policies to prevent that carp. Tightened like no receipt, no returns, period!

I had a couple of name brand reels that went bad about three months after I had bought them from BPS they took my credit card and back track threw there system and found the receipt printed it out for me and then let me return it for two more reels of equal value. They went over and above.

Never had a problem, every rod I've exchanged at BPS I was in and out in less than 15 minutes.

The reality of the situation is so many people have taken advantage of the return programs its just a matter of time before all stores stop doing it all together or get so strict its not worth messing with. No need in hating on the store, hate on the people that break a rod closing the door on their rod box and return it to the store for a new one... or the kid that was on here trying to buy peoples broken rods for next to nothing so he could take them back to Academy. Thats the real issue here IMO.

They exchanged a rod for me no-questions-asked a month ago.

The Seagur fluro line/spool switch-a-roo bandits have made hard for us honest guys. I bought the wrong sizes line and just wanted to exchange it w/ reciept before you know it, I had 2 manangers & a fishing and hunting rep surrounding me. Everything work out though.

I think that Academy will get that way soon as well!

That's why it is getting harder. Since it was so lose in the past I'm sure they have realized how may times they are being burned and tightened it up a bit. They are a business after all!

One other thing most retail stores are doing is seeing how often you have returned items, broken, without a receipt, whatever. I am pretty sure they can also see how much you spend with them (part of the loyalty card programs) to make the call on if it is good business to accept the return or not. If you have a habit of returning items without a receipt, then they know this and will put a limit on what you can and cannot return. Returning line they have to make sure you didn't use some of it before accepting the return. Rods/reels that are broken are warrantied for defects, not for car doors being slammed on them. As has been stated, they are a business and have to protect their interests.

I just returned two items this past week and had no issues at all but then again I had the reciept, it just makes sense. I can easily see having trouble at any store without the reciept. My first (and last) experiance at Cabellas was when I tried to return a reel that was broken and they wouldnt accept it so I got stuck with a useless 200 dollar reel and yes I had the reciept.

Same prob with bp, only returned one rod there before and had them repair one reel. Went in last week on six month old curado and found it on my rewards card, would not accept took to academy and they exchanged it. Will be spending my $ at academy and anglers pro tackle. Cut my rewards card up in front of manager and cancelled my bp visa

So rear, you took a 6 month old Curado that you purchased at BPS to Academy and exchanged it for a new one?
