If you plan on fishing this spring or early summer, you might want to think about trying to hire a quality guide right now! I know for a fact that the more popular guides are booked WELL in advance.
Example, I tried to book a 3 day trip in April - booked. Tried another guide - booked! Moved the trip to May and only one of those two had the dates I needed. Oh, and I booked this right after Christmas!!!

Make sure that whom ever you hire ask if he will be doing the guiding and not sub-contracting it out to someone else..in particular @ Falcon Lake ..

Falcon and for a guide.. Jim Edwards, Speedy Collet or Jim Behnken I don't know if it is true or not, but I heard Speedy Collett quit guiding.

I'm not sure I would say Falcon hands down. There is very little debate about which one is better overall for fishing. Falcon is probably the best bass lake in the country right now. But keep in mind that Amistad is no slouch when it comes to fishing and is a much prettier lake. Crystal clear water and rock bluffs makes it one of the best looking lakes in the state. It's a great question. You will catch a lot of fish at either lake so you really can't go wrong.

Depends on what Dad wants out of the trip......if sightseeing, beautiful scenery, rock bluffs, crystal clear water and all that stuff is important, go to AMISTAD.
If he wants a fish of a lifetime; mean, giant-shouldered horses trying to pull you into the lake like tug-of-war once you set the hook......FALCON is his lake.

I could have done just as well renting a boat for the recent half day I spent out there. I wanted to start a thread on this very subject, but decided against possibly hurting feelings on a touchy subject.
