We called a fish out of a creek we fished in Rock Bass. They were built more like a crappie and had a bigger mouth. They had black dots on them. I have never known what the real name of that fish is

Growing up in South Texas, all small fish were called perch, we went perch fishing. When I moved to East Texas in the 70's they were called bream, crappie were called white perch. Now that I am back in South Texas they are called redears, bluegills, and various other names.

Your Pops is a True Cajun if he called largemouths "Green Trout". I'm sure he also called Crappie Sac-A-Lait. I've always heard "goo", "goofish" and Gaspergou referencing the freshwater drum.

Need a like button for this post. Sounds like my grandpa talking. " Hey boy ya wanta go fish for some of those Sac-a lait over at the park?
For the record, I'm a Native Texan... Born on a Island(Galvez)Only True Texan in my immediate family... As for the rest of the herd,(Arkansas, Louisiana, and Tennesee)They're a bunch of HILLBILLIES!!!! Hee Haw!! My screename is misleading...( I was raised on Chocolate Bayou)It is the name of my Fathers BBQ Cook off team years ago...
