i thought that was a louisiana thing? idk. theres ditch pickle for bass funny name for sure. for me perch is what got me. up north theres the yellow perch so i always called "perch" sunfish or bluegill.

The perch thing covers all sunfish to me. I ran into the same thing when i went to Min. fishin. They call sunfish sunnies

That's Cajun for "BIG UGLY" (Gaspergou)-Up north those Yankees call em' "SHEEPHEAD". My Pops used to call Bass "Green Trout" haha.... It's not Boiled Shrimp, Crabs, or Crawfish in my family...It's Bald...

I agree. Calling any small fish a perch is what sets my teeth on edge. Calling a drum a Gaspergou is OK because it is a nickname and not the name of another fish but calling a Sunfish a Perch is just ignorance. It is exactly the same as calling a Crappie a Bass. Any fisherman ought to know the difference.

I've read that gaspergoo is a mis pronunciation of some french (Cajun) words meaning muscle eater. I forgot what the words were. I've heard them called sheepshead too.
