As the water level right now, I am pretty sure you can go all the way up to the hole

I drove by there yesterday and water levels look good. Hoping to get a chance to drop my yak at the bridge this weekend and head west. If I do, I'll report back.

Follow the creek west from the lake until it comes to a T.
You can see it well on Google maps.

Hey natural, if you look at a map it is the second T in the creek past 377. That is what I have always referred to as the hole. I have good luck on any bend in the creek or on the down current side of cover or structure when the water is moving and the spawn is on. I guess what I am saying is you don't have to make it all the way to the hole. When the water is up and the spawn is on they are all up and down that creek. I have had days that I limited on whites and crappie in the same area or bend in the creek. It is getting harder and harder each year for people to get there without a boat. The landscape is getting drilled and developed around the creek. I try to stay out of the creek if I am still catching them in the lake. I hope this helps.

My plans have changed I won't be going to the creek friday, with the nice weather I am going to finish painting my Monarch project for the creek..

I think the west/south side would be best cause that is where you will find the walk trails .

Last year they started catching around this time . slow fishing and the Dam they had when putting in Water or gas line isn't there this year.. there has to be some up there . I would try for blues as well..

I'll hop in the boat. I was planning on go out this Friday. First time this year since the water come up. Walking or paddling if the current wasn't too strong. Pm me with the details.

Speaking of, can anyone say what the current is like. I've seen it get real fast when it is full or after rains. If anybody has drove by and gave it a look recently could you report.

The current is pretty strong, and stronger if going west. Paddling may not be a good deal. What time you plan to go Friday? I think we met before at the creek.

I have the whole day free. I'm probally not the guy you are thinking of but we may have talk as I usually say a few words with about everyone I see fishing. You meet some good people fishing and learn new tips. But as far as meeting it's whenever I could always get out there and wait on you. I'll be fishing either way.

I went yesterday (Wed 23rd) and took a pal.
We easily caught a 2 man limit of Sandies and several crappie also.
Prob a 5-1 ratio males to females. Kept a few and
let the others fight another day.

2 to 3in sassy shad and RR jigs. Chartruse or White.

I got almost to the hole but found fewer fish the further up the
creek I went. So worked my way back down stream.

Caution- I found a new submerged log the hard way. No damage
but scared me pretty good. It's within a qtr mile of the launch
ramp and mid channel in the creek. I was on plane and only the
foot hit it.
The HUGE transducer/prop eating tree is still mid stream
just downstream from the dam abt 100yds. Just downstream
from where that rock bank starts just before U get to the
dam.

U can just barely see the swirl as the water crosses the
dam- but it shows nicely on the graph.

I went last week and the water was choc milk colored.
It's still stained but now taking on the usual green color.
Surface temp was 58deg at mid day. It's down about a foot
from last week also.

Stay left right up againt the bank to get past the 1st
sandbar. At full trim-up I was able to get through
easily. Your milage may vary.

Tight-lines,

-Sniper

If you get caught fishing to far up the creek there is a game warden that will really get after you so be carefull he hides in the area once the run starts! And be carefull of the asian fisherman from the market they are headed in that area late LY as well ....Will be like a fishermans guantlett for sandies!

What about a game warden? I have fishing license. Is there a point where you aren't allowed to fish?

I've seen the game warden up there and they help clear out all the illegal fisherman up there one time they came by boat and the other walked up and both time near the hole . but I have also seen people keeping 8" and 9" fish I think it is good that they are making it to that spot .. Glad to see the fish are heading up the pipe isn't blocking this year . going to get my Monark running now .

Here is what I know and I have a close buddy who is a warden covering Lewisville area and Denton area,He says that they are going to make a strong effort to stop the over harvest in the creeks and that the staning fine is 75.00 per sandbass undersized or over limt and 500.00 for hybrids and blak bass same.I do not think h would make that up but if you are fishing in the Denton Creek,Hickory Creek etc, keep your eyes open.
Good Fishing and be safe! One last thing they caught a charged a angler last year for catching the fish and selling them to the asian market in East Plano. If you get a chance to go to Asian World market in east Plano they have Sand Bass,Hybrids, and Large mouth bass for sale on ice in that store.I have seen it with my own eyes!!!

Last year when they came by boat there was a guy driving the bow to the bank and female game wardens would hop off the boat. They had their system down pretty good so people couldn't get away. Now that's one game warden I'm looking to get stopped by again. Like some charlie's angels.

Well barnes you are talking like that is a bad thing. I personally hope you ate right and hope they are there everyday. Nothing pisses me off more than seeing illegal fish being put on a stringer. So i look forward to running into them down there.

You have to walk under the bridge, cross at least 2 feeder creeks and then hike about 2 miles. There really isn't a path.

Just got back. Still slow but did get a few. Tons of boats going by. Water color pretty good. For you paddlers the current's calm. Don't know what else to say exept it's just about that time.

What area did you fish at? Water was moving pretty good by the bike park yesterday.

So is there parking by the 377 bridge? If not, where can I legally park nearest to that area.

I caught a limit of sandies on Jan 30 from the bank west of 377. this morning however we only pulled up 9 good sized whites. Taking Bwoods boat out tomorrow hoping we can limit on some crappie as well.

yopu should be able to park just north of the creek on the east side of the road. Apparently they've paved it since last spring...

I was thinking about launching my boat this afternoon at Marshall Creek Park. I wonder if it would be worth it at this time of day?

Hey CHADS, im the guy with thew bass tracker that caught the cat in your pic. thanks for the tips and not being bothered with us around yall. my son had had a great time, he out fished me and my buddy Shane
HOPE THE CAT TASTED GOOD, he was a fun catch
thanks again Eddie,Shane and Tyler
orange and white roadrunners and 3 inch pearl shad produced best for us, cast, drop to the bottom and slow retrieve. deep holes at bends around ten feet seemed to be the most productive spots for us

Bass Tracker...? I have always walked in off of Hickory Creek road and fished. Never seen a boat there. Are you guys putting in on Lewisville and going up the creek?? How big of a boat can you get up there?

it's definately Grapevine but if you are heading up the creek most people launch at Marshal Creek Park behind Trohpy Club. I was at the bridge crossing this morning and saw many boats of all sizes up there. Fished for a few hours with a swim shad and lil' george. Caught one sandie that looked real healthy. Also had a treble hook in with some stink and didn't get anything. Had fun with the kid though and that's what counts

That pipe is not a pipe it is a concrete wall and I have seen it out of the water many times over the years. It is thick enough that I have walked up and down it. There is a hole on the south side of it that looks like they blasted a hole in it at one point. It was an old dam on the creek many years ago. Right now its about 2-3 feet under the surface and if the Corp continues letting water out like they have been it will take out some lower units before the run is over.

Jacky your right I keep wanting to call this a pipe .. I recall there was an old Damn and this is it. Like you say it loves lower units and it cannot be avoided since it goes all the way across.. if i get my boat running I want to try to mark that thing somehow..

I went about a week ago. Zero Sandies but a 3 foot gar that was a lot of fun. Got him to the side of boat and held him so I could grab my needle nose pliers to try to retrieve my lures and as I reached over the gunnel he started chewing the line off. I could actually hear the grinding noise. Then he disappeared with my slab and jigs. He was a lot of fun and made a hard run to get under the boat.

The ramp there at the back of trophy Club is somewhat primitive. I didn't have anyone fishing with me that day so I had no way to tie the boat to bank and I don't carry an anchor.Next time i may bring a 3' pipe and hammer to drive into the ground to tie up to. Kindof concerned walking through the under growth from the bank to parking because it looked like prime snake country. The ramp is fairly shallow so bring your rubber boots. The auto gate does a good job collecting your $5 launch fee to bad they don't provide some ammenities to tie your boat too while parkimg.

Still was a good day. Size of my boat is a Lowe 175 with a 115 Optimax. Since I don't know the creek and there was a lot of debris from the rain the day before I kept it slow and had no problems. I came close to 377 but stopped short about 1/2 mile.It was real muddy after the rain

Fish everytime I can!

I've ran my 20 ft bass boat up to the bridge on many occasions. When there is nobody around, I usually plane it off and cruise about 30 mph, if boats and shore anglers are out, I just idle. I've been past 377 with my 20 fter several times too when there is enough water to get past the debris pile around the bridge columns and the left side was the only side accessible (haven't been in a while so that all might be gone now). Unfortunately, my brother was one of the ones who's prop came into contact with that concrete dam several years ago and it destroyed his stainless prop. One of the blades was ripped in two.

off the bank near the hole , they would be everywhere just a matter of finding a submerged structure there sitting at .

caught on jigs today. On Thurs. I will be trying minnow and bobber ..The trick for me is to use a weedless jig to find structure. once you know what is around you you can target the fish..

I went out sunday and parked at the dfw adventure park which is farther downstream the 377 but I think it's still a little early for them to be that far down the river we caught about 5 in 3 hours using white road runners,...... A VERY slow presentation was needed for the ones we did get.... I did catch 2 largemouths though, one was a lil guy but the other was a fun one to catch on an ultralight.....

I caught a limit of sandies last saturday and this big gar! That was really fun on a ultra light and 4lb test with a road runner! I got all the way past the hole. 12ft jon boat with 5hp motor takes about a hour and 15min to get there!

went late today after a skunk at joe pool/661 creek. Got to Denton creek about 1pm, lots of fish in the creek, all over the sonar. Caught a few big mommas and one little poppa. Should have just gone to Denton in the first place!

Fished Henrietta hole today and the sandies were pretty slow. The crappie did bite a lot better. We managed a decent mixed bag. We threw back a lot of small crappie.

Yes, but it was work, basically getting out and pushing the boat threw the south bank until we could get to the deeper north bank. We did see a 17-18 ft boat with a jet drive just drive threw without even having to get wet. He went on up the creek somewhere.

Cabela's usually has some ... not sure if there is any place in Roanoke that carries them or not.

They sold minnows at the diamond shamrock station on 114 right in Roanoke years ago. Its just about a block off 377 to the east.

They sell minnows and some other live bait at the Valero across from the VFW on Oak. About a block off 377 behind Alliance boat center.

OK, Guys, I will be going to the hole tomorrow around 2 and would like to invite someone to join me. I have a two man inflatable that I plan to bring with me. We will be carrying the un-inflated boat to the hole and inflate it at the hole. If you want to join me tomorrow, we can meet somewhere around 2pm.
The boat can hold up to 440 lbs,. I am 185 so if you are much heavier than me, this might not be a good ideal. PM me if you want to go with me.

Fishdude, there is a huge sign right where your parking option 1 pin is that says "no tresspassing". Roanoke pd does not mess around and it is not worth going to jail for.

Hit the hole again today and I could not buy a bite on a slow rolled jig, road runner or little fishy. Minnows were the only thing they wanted. We fished out 6 dozen and kept 19 Sandies and 12 crappie. Threw back a lot of short crappie again. Also had a huge gar drag me around the hole 4 times before I could get him up to the surface.

Yea you're right there is a sign there. It's in the worst location.. i didn't know it was there until just now.. BUT! that sign is a deterrent for people and kids that go in and mess with the unfinished homes. There is a dirt road at option 2 ill change it up make option 2 NOT an option. But is says call 911 to report suspicious activity. doubt anyone will call 911 to report a guy with a fishing pole.

Jacky, was it you that were are the hole on a lightly rainny Saturday two or three weeks back? I was at the bank and two guys were pulling Crappies one after another one on the otherside of the hole in a boat. We were the only three people at the hole.

Only one guy walked into it yesterday from 9:30 to 3:30. He only stayed a couple of minutes. I think everyone is catching more east of the hole and realizing they don't need to go that far right now.

Not on a Saturday. That other bank has been the spot for crappie. Yesterday they were a lot slower. Wednesday you could tear them up on a small jig and 2" grub counted down 4-5 seconds then slow rolled. You can walk across the creek if you go down stream just a little ways. Its barely deep enough to float a jon boat over it.

I am launching at Marshall Creek Ramp tomorrow morning for the first time. Is it an open run up Denton Creek from there to 377 or is there obstacles (pipes, concrete, stumps, etc.) in the middle?

Thanks...

stumps are every where and some floaters. You should be fine until a Big concrete culvert under 377 and another one 2 bends down stay to the FAR left for both!

Yes, all of those are in the creek. Idle up there, if you're smart. Lot's of folks on the bank and in paddle boats, too. Have fun!

I have a 16ft fiberglass boat, do you think I will be ok if I put in at Marshall Creek? Is it better fishing the further down stream?

I scouted the ramp the other day. Probably 12 or 15 trailers filled it up. You could probably park up the hill just off the pavement. There is no courtesy dock, so it's nice if you have a helper or an anchor to throw up on bank.

Went out on the 29th, launched at Trophy Club park at 10 am and came back in at 4 pm. Had a cooler full of 48 Sandies and 2 Crappie between the 2 of us in the boat. Ran up as far os we could go and just started floating back using the trolling motor to hold in areas when we started catching fish. Road Runners in White, Chartuese and Yellow. Rattle traps in fire tiger and chrome/blue back.

Went out today and parked at the Paintball park again and walked to the hole...... From my experience today the hole didnt live up to the reputation it's been getting.... There was about 8 people in that 1 hole and no one caught a fish for the hour I was there, we used road runners and rooster tails and nothing there..... We walked a little up stream to a smaller hole where no one was there and that hole produced about 10 crappie and 4 sandies in about 15 min..... I'm not saying the hole is a bad spot just too over fished this early in the season.... I feel it's still a little too soon and their not in full spawn yet

Hey all. New member, long time reader here.
Was able to drop the kayak in Denton Creek yesterday afternoon. Put in at boat ramp, headed upstream. Started picking up bites around the first major bend. Landed a couple fat sandies just trolling a shad-looking jig. Kept paddling up until I ran across some more and found a school. They were popping the shad up on top so I chased around for a while.
In all I landed 5 chunky sand bass and had a great time for the 2+ hours I was on the creek.
I'm heading out again today...maybe bring home a stringer full for dinner!
Take care!

Google trophy club park and find their website. On the website there's a physical address. That's how I found directions to the ramp. Good luck!

ramp was an absolute zoo today, had to fight for a spot just to get the boat back out of the water, must have been 35 to 40 trucks/trailers. broke something on the outboard, had to get a tow back in (thanks if that was you and you are reading this) and thanks to the guy who helped me load my boat. Good people out there.

Form 377 and 114, go North on 377,
turn East, right, on Marshall Creek Rd.
go down to the end of MCR, the road ends, turn Right on Bobcat Way,
Wind around Byron Nelson HS (on left) to Trophy Club Rd.
Turn left, go about 3/4 mile or so, start looking for Trophy Club Park Rd on the left, it'll be just past a bunch of new houses,
Left on TCP rd,
wind down and around, pass a new dog park on the left, an the park entrance is at the end of the road.
The machine takes cards and cash,
Turn left at the guard shack,go about a half mile, the road "Y's", turn left at the y, up and over a hill, and turn left.

I think that about covers it.

In all I landed 5 chunky sand bass and had a great time for the 2+ hours I was on the creek.
I'm heading out again today...maybe bring home a stringer full for dinner!
Take care!

Was that you today in the green Native? If so it was good meeting you. My wife and I were loading our yaks when you came off the water. Hope to see you again sometime soon and hopefully a day when the bite is better.

You were not the only one that broke down. I saw the game warden getting towed in as well.

Was the warsen towed by another warden or was it one of us ( fisherman )? The warden at Hubbard said they would not tow us if it was not a serious emergency. Just asking.

One of us. It was Creek God here on the forum. We gave them hell too. They had been giving us an unjustified hard time earlier in the day. I thought they were going to puke before they could actually ask for a tow. LOL! BTW, the Crappie are still up there if you look. I caught maybe 40, but only a dozen or so keepers. frown

That was me. It was good to be out a chat with you guys. A little sunburned and sore from paddling up and down yesterday.
Maybe we will meet up again there soon.
In the mean time, I think i need to pick up a throw net or something to catch some live bait. They sure didn't like my fake shads yesterday!

Parking on 377 at the trailhead is limited. I was out Thurs. and it was almost full. What happened over the weekend to over flow parkers that were surely there, were they ticketed?

Hit Henrietta Hole today and it was a bit slow. Not much current at all. Man there are some huge shad running up those shallows right now. Did clean 35 sandies and almost all came from minnows. Caught around 50 crappie, mostly caught on jigs, but only had 6 keepers. About 20 of those crappie came from East of the hole on the way out. I felt bad for a bank fisherman that was not catching anything and I pulled up and tore the crappie a new one right by him. I gave him some minnows and jigs and I hope he put them to good use after I left. Think I stopped and talked to Chads as well on the way out.

too over fished is right... thats what happens when spots are named on the forum stir

Not that many people fishing yesterday. No boats on the ramp at 9:00. Only 3 boats at 4:00 in the afternoon. Probably a dozen bank fisherman stretched out over a couple of miles of creek. Bite seems the same as some other creeks I have been fishing the past few weeks that have not been named on the Internet. Guess that over fished theory needs some more research.

I know last weekend, (Sunday in particular,) the bite was non-existant. I'm debating on heading up there to enjoy a few hours of my day off today, despite the cold,/wind. I didnt catch anything on sunday, so I can't do any worse today right?

went out there today, all the water has been diverted, the creek is dry, dead fish everywhere. They've chopped all the trees down, burned the grass and are paving the entire area over to put in a Universal Walmart; the biggest Walmart ever conceived (good part is they are adding a new russian mail order bride department - fully stocked). Take my advice, stay away from the creek, better off just going to Long John Silvers if you want fish.

You were not the only one that broke down. I saw the game warden getting towed in as well.

That just cracks me up; we saw the wardens motoring the other way when we were being towed in (they did pause to ask if everything ok). Nothing against the wardens though; I like seeing them out there, keep poachers under control.

Water on Monday was very deep and stained. Sandbar at the hole was almost totally under water, it looked better today driving across the 114 bridge

Where can I go for bank fishing or wading? I see most people on this forum talking about launching at the ramp.

You can park just north of the creek on 377, there's a parking lot on the east side. From there you can walk back to the creek and bank fish. Not sure how easy it is to follow the creek, I've mainly just fished right around the bridge there.

Fishing sucked today. Water is still chocolate milk. I hit the hole at daylight, fished till 11:00. No fish caught. Saw a few caught.....at this rate, it will be next week before the fishing gets better.

I launched from under 377 today in my kayak. The current is not too bad, but further up stream towards the hole, there's strong current that pretty much took it outta me & I had to turn back. However, fish is to be caught downstream from the hole too. Saw a few bank fishermen with nice stringers. I only got 5 nice keepers only after finally getting the lure they wanted. Fish the currents. Good luck!

I also paddled west from the 377 bridge yesterday afternoon. I had no problem paddling against the current ... probably paddled up about 2 miles or so ... not quite to the "hole". Fishing was good and when I headed back I was thankful for the current as I made great time. Good thing because I was racing against the sunset. Stayed a little longer than I meant to, but the fish were biting better than expected and well, hard to leave when they are biting.

I went early this morning, just left a while ago. I paddled from Trophy Club Park, past 377. I tried to get to the hole, but that current was a pain. Then the wind was against me on the way back. I ended up with 13 or 14 sandies. Bite was pretty slow, got most trolling.

I passed over the creek yesterday at 35W and it was still running like rapids and muddy way up there. Looked like it needed 3 more days without rain to settle back down.

Made my first run up Denton Creek from the Trophy Club Park Ramp - I didnt have any luck and from appearances neither was anyone else. Saw a few fish being caught - Sandies have not moved up the creek yet. I was surprised at the number of gar in the creek - do they negativley impact the number of fish in the creek?
