Bass Pro has good ones; you just have to go to the Salt Water department. Stainless steel in 1X or 2X. The 2X #3's are rated at 50 pounds.

Tom, go to Barlow's. They've got stout ones.

Do you guys use the oval split rings, or the regular ones? I started using the oval ones simply because I didn't have to deal with not tying the line at the opening. I know some talk about better performance on their lures and what not, but I didn't find that to be the case.

I've found this exact model to be the best all-around freshwater split ring pliers: http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-61/2-Split-Ring-Pliers/product/10205361/51570I tried the smaller 'standard size' and it is really hard to work with any split rings on bigger crankbaits or bigger spooks. The one I linked you to above will work for small or big, it's very versatile and doubles as a great hook remover as it's fairly needle nose like and gets hooks out of mouth/gut with ease.

I always use the Owner ones for swapping out Big Spooks and DD Cranks since I use braid. I got a quick question about regular oval type split rings. Where on the split ring are you supposed to tie the knot? I have a lot of times where the line breaks because it snaps from the split ring cutting into it. Do you tie it on the "skinny" part where the end starts? Or do you do it at a thicker part? I am not sure if this is a dumb question or what but I never figures out the correct way lol. Thanks.. KVD says to tie directly across from thin area so that area will ride on the eyelet of the bait

Go to www.tacklewarehouse.com and look up Worth Company Power Oval Split Rings. Made from magnesium and advertised as 50% stronger than round rings. Suggest you get the #6 size. I have a second order on the way and are swapping all my crankbaits out to these oval rings.
