I had to change out a couple split rings on some traps the other day. I have some replacements that are Bass Pro Shops brand. I have to say they seemed pretty flimsy. I don't remember seeing another brand besides generics at BPS and Academy. Who makes good stout split rings and where do you get them? Thanks in advance.

Offshore guys use owner split rings. Excellent quality, and I bet it trickles down to the small bass sized ones as well. Usually ordered mine from charkbait.com in Cali

Okay, I see the Owner ones at TW. What is standard size for a split ring on your basic crankbait?

DD22 are about a #4, RC 3.5 I have laying here is smaller than the pack of #4s I have, so probably a #3 on them.

#3 should do fine on most decent sized cranks. RC 1.5 and smaller might need a #2

I always use the Owner ones for swapping out Big Spooks and DD Cranks since I use braid. I got a quick question about regular oval type split rings. Where on the split ring are you supposed to tie the knot? I have a lot of times where the line breaks because it snaps from the split ring cutting into it. Do you tie it on the "skinny" part where the end starts? Or do you do it at a thicker part? I am not sure if this is a dumb question or what but I never figures out the correct way lol. Thanks.

. Tie on the thick part, never where the split is, your crank bait will not run straight and it will cut your line.

Tom get them from Stamina/Lure parts on-line. Get size 2 for the smaller cranks 1.5 and the size 3 for traps and 2.5. Here is the link. lurepartsonline.com/Online-Store/Split-Rings-Pliers/2X-Heavy-Split-Rings.html

So I hear. I have normal ones, and they work, but can be a pain sometimes. I have to get me a pair of those.
