Tried your advice...when I caught the biggest bass of my life the
batteries were dead in my digital scale. I only dig it out when I
think the fish is over 10. Then I got a spring scale but when I
caught my next giant the scale evidently had gotten soaked in
a storm and was rusted out. These fish were in the 12-14 pound
range. I was by myself when they were caught. Scouts honor.

Good story. I knew a guy that caught an 11 pounder every time he went out. It always made me smile.

I used to be bad at over estimating fish weights. But that scale will bring you back to planet earth in a hurry. Now-a-days, I mainly measure my fish, unless I have one is over the slot, which has only happened on Joe Pool. Cause the biggest i've had at Fork is 23"

It must be the same dude I met at the ramp @ Popes back in Oct. He told me he caught 12 over 10 lbs off the Mustang bridge in one night trip back in 1993..

and he was 100% serious , because my "auto" response was, "what the _ _ _ _ did you say?" lol

That's classic!! If I caught 12 over 10 I sure wouldn't tell from what spot.
Then again not very many of us caught 12 over 10 in 1 trip!

Great story! When you start getting published, make them in Kindle versions, wife just got one for Christmas and needs some good reading material for it!

Met a guy one time and we struck up a conversation about bass fishing. I have fished Fork for 20 years and never caught a 10 lber. But the abundance of 6, 5, and 4's is legendary if you fish this lake alot. Anyway he takes off telling me about this giant he caught on Benbrook. 10 minutes later he has completed his tale and told me about how he got it mounted and how he could kick himself for not getting it certified as a new lake record even though he does not know what the record is. I finally ask him how much it weighed. He tells me 5lbs, 4oz. I just walked off shaking my head.
