LOL Jeremy. I know, if it hadn't been for the wind I would have called. My little boat don't like those conditions. Maybe we can try it next Wednesday or Thursday.
Glad he could help you out--Mark's a good guy.
I can do better---I just never have.

BTW... I know your secret spot now... you didnt black out the background like those jacks in the catfish forum! Thats just funny. I've caught 17 inchers that where post spawn and barely 2lbs and caught 15 3/4 inchers in the same lake that where 2lbs so weight will vary some. I'd go with the scales they may be off a few ounces but are closer than any chart most of the time.

Pics can be deceiving. Go with what you feel is the truth. Here is a pic of a fish that was weighed on scale that was proven accurate. I'm interested in the weight guesses. Another TFFer took the pic and weighed this fish and can verify the actual weight. I'm not trying to hijack the post, but only prove that pics can surely be deceiving! Let the guesses begin. -alton -alton

A set of scales is the best way to humble you. If someone tells me the scales said five but she had to be seven I always side with the scales. Pics are so deceiving. I think I would of guessed that fish around 3.5 but if the scales said five I'll bet thats what it was.
Just to make sure your scales aren't off but a 5lb bag of sugar in a grocery sack and see how close they get.

I'd get a berkley digital scale from Bass Pro. They are supposed to be accurate to within a few ounces. I caught a fish in Oklahoma which was my biggest in the 90's that was 22 and 1/2 inches long and 20.5 inches around. For a LMB the conversion is lengthXlengthXgirth divided by 1200. That would be 8.65 lbs. I took it to a supermarket and weighed it on a certified produce scale and it went 7 lb 8 oz. I told people it was 8 and a half for years but never felt right about it because of the produce scale. I held it up to 2 9 and half pound fish on my dad's wall and it was shorter but close to the same size. I now tell people it is 7 and a half. My point is a scale will make set your mind right.

Alton's fish is a 5 pounder maybe closer to 6 depending on how big an ol boy he is. My brother can make a 7 pounder look 9-10 cause he is a master at holding the fish out with arms bent and hiding his hands as reference points. He's actually taken fishing line and tied it to the rafters in my dad's barn and had my dad tell him where to position his hands to look like he's grabbing the lip from 20 feet behind the fish. It looks as big as him! If you want to see the pics of that magic trick, let me know and I'll post those stupid pics.

That fish I'm holding weighed 7.88 on a scale that was checked and re-checked!
When she first came to the surface, Ed (guy in the red) thought she was 11 or 12 lbs.
It's just the angle of the fish in the pic! It's odd, because in real life, she looked every bit of almost 8 lbs! I'm am a fat boy, too - so that prolly jacks it up a little!
TFFer - Tom Groves weighed and photographed the fish during a tournament.
