Just a heads up to all that own or are thinking about buying the ecoboost. My bosses brother in law is the service manager for 3 dealerships and has worked for ford for more than 25 years. My boss buys all off our company trucks through him and he said not to touch the ecoboost, by far the worst engine ford has made since he has been with them. The have been dropping turbo's left and right, his words wich I agree with are " you make alot of horsepower out off a small engine and it decreases the lifespan of it, stick with displacement" On the other hand he says the best thing they could of done is bring back the 5.0. I've never been a ford guy but have to admit their 5.4 and 5.0 are damn good motors. Their front ends on the other hand have much to be desired. One of our company trucks has had 3 new front ends and needs a 4th now at 208,000 miles. Motor is still solid with no leaks or issues though. I would never buy the first year of a new motor anyways, always bugs to work out.

Yep had 3 in my dodge before 100k with most of those miles pulling my boat.

Dodge is known for its weak transmissions and even weaker solenoids that runs their transmissions. I used to own a '99 Dodge and the trans was definitely the weak link.

The new Ford engines are the real deal though. Being a big car guy its in general and not a fanboy of any particular brand I'd say Ford engineers finally got something right. The ecoboost will be copied by others just wait and with it make gobs more torque than a stock 5.0 its a better choice for towing. Now turbo engines always have their downsides but if engine performance is really important theres things that can be done to counteract some of the negative.

The new 5.0 is a monster also, a few tweaks and an aftermarket tune and you have a 400whp beast tearing up boats ramps. Chevy and especially Dodge better step up their game quickly or there may be another bail out going on.

As for the buy American comment. GM outsources so much stuff its sickening. Tundras are built in San Antonio.

And cause we're talking engines and I love to brag, heres proof im not a fanboy. My '91 fox with a chevy heart....notice the badges says 5.7 not 5.0

Now thats a Mustang with a real motor in it.

Just got back last night from tournament. Went with guy that has a 2011 2500 Duramax Denali Crew GMC and I have never seen anything like it, pulling a 22ft Skeeter 75+mph, to Ray Roberts and back, 620mi. took 28.7 gallaons to fill it back up. I could see that was over 20mpg without a pencil. My 2010 Silverado 4X4 did`nt get but 12mpg going to Falcon and back pulling a tandum axel Ranger, last month.

I got out of the tundra and got the Eco 4x4. The tundra is a good truck but I like the Ford better. The economy is hands down better and I can tow my boat on cruise and won't down shift hardly at all. Much better. I've had it 4 months and have 17000 miles on it. No complaints.

I had a brand new 1986 Ford F-150 Lariat with the brand new 5.0 (302) (at the time) fuel injected motor.. Ran great but shifted a lot out of O/D when towing the boat.. But a great truck and it had 286,000 on it when I totaled it.. Never had an engine or tranny problem..

Then I had a 99 F-150 with the 4.6 Triton V-8.. Fabulous truck.. Sold it six months ago with 322,000 miles on it and it still ran great.. I put a new tranny in it at 139,000 miles.. But the replacement (from Ford) was still working perfectly when I sold it.. And it still went down the road at 85 slicker than a cats [censored].. The guy I sold it to loves it..

Six months ago I bought a 2011 with the 5.0 V-8.. This is by far the fastest and the strongest motor of any gas engine truck I have owned or ridden in.. It will flat [censored] stick you in the seat.. Fun to drive and the best passing power I have seen in a truck.. And the best brakes, four wheel Disc, that I have ever had.. It will stop your rig..(Six speed tranny keeps you in the power range all the time). Pulling a boat, (Which all of these trucks did all the time)I get about 13.5-14 MPG.. Not good but that is why I drive a truck.. Cause I need to haul and pull stuff.. I have 7,000 miles on it and it gets 18 plus on the highway, according to the computer thingy.. And that is driving 80-90.. I go to SA all the time from Zapata and I don't [censored] around on the road..

It will blow my brothers 5.3 Silverado off the road..

I have owned a lot of Fords, and if I live long enough I'll own some more.. Also had a 1980 3/4 ton work van with a 351 Windsor that went 411,000 miles.. Did put a tranny it it as well.. Can't remember when..

Have had several other new and used ford P/U's, and I am crazy about changing the oil.. It's the life blood of an engine..

I am admittedly a Ford freak.. But this new engine is a BMF.. I get second gear scratch all the time.. And that makes me smile..

That Eco is gonna be a game changer. It's all that and a bag o cookies. Can't wait to see dodge and chevy's answer. I have been addicted to the torque of a modified diesel now for around 6 years. Gas engines just can't run with the cummins or power strokes or even dura maxes. And they never will but his Eco boost may create a new class of trucks for the people wanting high end torque wo the extra diesel cost.

And the Camaros are made in Canada.

Man, can you imagine if corporations actually cared about making/keeping more jobs in America than saving a few bucks. It'd almost be like the old days. I sure hope job creation keeps finding it's way back to America and keeps leaving China. The only solution I can think of is to try to buy American before buying import products. I sure do hate the fact that so many American auto makers buy so much import product.

Yeah, in the article I posted it said that the F150 and the Silverado held the #1 & #2 spots for the first for the first few years that the rankings were done. Now, none of the big 3 full size pickups even made the cut for the American Made Index. (75% of the vehicle's parts content had to be made in America to even be considered for rank). Dodge wasn't far from the cut with 70% American made parts content. The f150 and silverado are only at 60 & 61%.
Imagine how many more American jobs would be created if Ford, Chevy, and Dodge increased there US parts content by ~36%. Keep in mind, these numbers are just for full size trucks.

Tundra 4X4 all the way!!! Gas mileage sucks but that is the only negative. I 100% believe that the long list of positives far outweighs that one negative. I will put my Tundra up against a Ford on power and performance any day.

Regulations, taxes, and unions are to thank for the parts content of vehicles nowdays.

Like I said Toyota has some genius marketing folks working for them. They have done wonders in the US.

Guys, the best thing to help you decide in such a big purchase is to just drive one. I am a Ford tech of 10 years and the ecoboost f150 is a gamechanger! My brother in law(also a ford tech) just bought one and unloaded it will run with my 2011 f250 6.7l diesel. Pretty impressive. If I didn't work on diesels for a living I would be driving an ecoboost. It seems to tow his 19ft Basscat just fine. Fuel economy is pretty decent and Jr is right on the money with the numbers. Hope this helps. Everyone who hasn't been in a newer model Ford really needs to drive one and look at all the new technology available. I was an import/honda fan for years until I started working on Fords. Since 2003 I have owned 3 and all have been excellent.
