I'm not sure where to ask this, so I'll ask it both places. Any info on fishing for trout, below Canyon dam in the New Braunfels area, would be appreciated. I'm not a fly fisherman, more a bait or ul spinning guy. capt david

I fish it mainly in summer, but I catch a lot below rapids on bandit 100's in crawfish colors.
I'd think UL spinning gear and roostertails would work as well. I like fishing between the horseshoe and just below ponderosa crossing.

I used to live down there, and tried trout fishing several times without much luck. I was told that you need to fish right after they stock it, because they die off fairly quick. He also told me when they do stock it it's elbow to elbow below the dam. So, take that for what it's worth.

If you fish the tailwaters I had the best luck on superdupers or small mepps spinners. Hueco springs is a bit better if you just want to catch small trout to take home and eat because of less crowds. There you can drift things like powerbait or corn. The "trophy area" I liked rio raft and mepps spinners would smoke the bigger trout 18" plus.
