Not to worry!

There are a lot of proposals for cutting the budget and Texas Parks and Wildlife is going to take a big hit, so guess what goes first if anything?

Just one more cast!

I wonder why they insist on stocking Rainbow trout?? Stocking browns which tolerate warmer water makes more sense. Of course Browns get real smart real quick and few in GRTU would fish as much when the fish wouldn't cooperate. The whole club just might disband and there would be no one in Texas to buy all the fancy trout fishing gear.

I think they have stocked browns several times...they end mysteriously disappearing.

Until you get one on that "had spots as big as a dime!" and you get broke off....

Mysteriously Disappearing = too smart for Fishermen. GRTU and the local Guad Guides depend upon trout that are DUMB and will bite over and over until they die. Rainbow are the most aggressive and probably from a strain that is bred for aggressiveness. If you are a fly fisherman and want a worthy adversary - try a carp. Much harder to catch than trout, and if you are into CPR why would you care that it is a lowly Carp (only in the USA).

Just for clarification, mysteriously disappearing = the state can't find them not them being hard to catch

Fish caught on Monday.

Also, There is the FREE Trout Fest happening at Rio Raft on 2-18 thru 2-20.

The WORD kid fish is on 2-27 at Huecco Springs.

FI

And no, the fish are NOT easy to catch. Knowing where, when, and how helps alot although.

How crowded does the Rio Raft area get on Saturdays? I've never been on a weekend, and due to the ice today, my father in law and I are going to have to push the trip back till tomorrow. Thanks!

last week had alot of people out there friday afternoon, not really crowded though. i'd bet saturday would be packed if good weather though. good area by the ramp to overlook area and see alot downstream by the weir. if they stocked it would bring flychunkers, bobber and fly people out too lol

only thing i dont like about the guad for trout is its all private. below the dam is the only place an out of towner can go fish. the rest is pay pay pay. i would like to fish further dwnstream but barbed wire is everywhere, keep out etc. but i go down there every year now in the winter for a week and pay. next year im going to float on down to ponderosa area. hear its good down there
