Fishing is allowed at each end of the kayak launch, but not between the "no fishing" signs. (which have been stolen)Unfortunately, you have people who completely disregard the signs. or steal them. A partial solution would be to prohibit all fishing from the bank in that launch area. Bank fisherman are limited as it to a crowded shore line , it would be a shame for them to lose more shore line just because of a few that won't play by the rules.
This is where that "no fishing beyond this point" sign would have to go.

I used to kayak a lot before buying my boat. I have seen a few fist fights and name calling over this issue.

thousand trails opened that area for fishing and they took the signs off themselves. when someone does make a complaint tom the manager does come out and enforce the rules. the game wardens do come out and stop and check for violations. and we "low-life" fisherman will fish there till november .

why didnt you take a pic of the whole launch area not just a partial scene that shows no violation being commited? that area was opened to bank fisherman by thousand trails. there is obviously enough room to launch a small boat there unless you planned on backing up over the grass. "fishing poles from one end to the other" sure doesnt look like that from your pic.

If people would only play by the rules, obey all the posted signs & be a little considerate of other people, we could all get along. Why are there always those that have to "step over the line" ?

thats a pretty good possibility, just like maybe some of the smal personal watercraft owners cant come to the conclusion that a 10' or 12' rod on the bank may be out more than 10yds . thats why they get tangled up with lines or get cast at with a weight when their "smart" enough to anchor on our lines.or the genius goes right or left after launching instead of straight. hmmm read english or have no common sense? i cant do/have neither.

i made a mistake on a post that i claimed thousand trails opened that area and took signs down. i asked tom (manager there) and he confirmed the signs were taken down but they do allow fishing there on the grass area. that may change in the neer future so we may have to launch , anchor , n fish out of "our kayaks n personal watercraft" there . and on the water there is no limit on rods so its going to get really crowded there.

i agree if all fishermen would obey the rules. i asked a boater to lift his anchor n move out further because i was going to rebait. he had been fishing on my lines over 40 minutes and i wanted to put fresh live bait . i told him again as i was wading out he ignored me. i cast to the left and past boat. he yelled at me that if i hit his boat he would make sure my lines would get dragged all over the lake. i told him i asked him nicely and that hes in the direction of my next cast. he started cussing at me so i did the same. i quickly got my 2nd rod n waded back out n he left. 2 hours later hes getting towed back into the boat dock and he was a whole lot nicer there.so it goes both ways. boat/bank fisherman have to respect each others areas.i treat everyone with respect and courtesy, if they respond disrespectful or rude then thats how ill treat them also

First, in response to the guy saying he was caught on someone's line from his kayak, it' not true! The picture of the truck in his photo is mine and noone was injured that day at all by lines or other means. The poles in the background are "at the present time" legal fishing areas. All lines were directed away from the launch area and all fisherman were in compliance with the park rules. Tom (mananger) came to verify. There was no angry, unruly, or out of control crowd. Most people who fish Calaveras Lake are genuinely concerned for everyones safety and work together to have a good time.
Unfortunately, none of the poles pictured were mine because they had a huge run of Redfish before I could rebait and cast! I had to wait for awhile.
Secondly, in response to the next post of the biligerant fisherman in the boat, I've seen it too many times. Of all the water in the lake, they just have to park and cast near the bank where the bank fisherman are. What happened to him having to have his boat towed was carma. So remember, treat others as you want to be treated.

this morning the kayak launch had new no fishing signs. You can only fish to the right of the the kayak launch.

It truly does go both ways. One time I tried fishing near the shore at the side of the lake where bank fisherman were. I tangled a line and that is the last time I ever fished that area again. I can go anywhere on the lake, bank fisherman are limited so I respect that. But, when pulling into the docks at the ramp and seeing people fishing on the docks (sign say dont do it) it is fustrating. Just follow the rules and show a little respect to each other and we'll all have a better time.

You are so right "Parttime". I got hung up on a line, because some of the bank fishermen chose to throw out at an angle, instead of casting "straight out". I would hate to think what would have happened if I had been on a jet ski...picture a 6/0 in the face.
