We all stumble and make mistakes. When you stumble, do you want your brother to help knock you down or to help set you back on your feet?

Saw a guy do that running into Kickapoo on Palestine back in the 80's,he hit a stump needless to say.He had good reason to be in a hurry though,we could see the tornado across the lake.

Wow. Spencer I'm glad you made it through it with no injuries

Hate to see the legend beat up. Have you contacted the dealership yet, if you didn't hit anything it had to be pre existing

Stump...Although I'm glad no one was hurt a lower unit just doesn't come off.The fact that it caused him to do a 360 suggests he hit something pitching his boat to one side..He said the bolts were ripped out.It doesn't matter if you put in at Tin Top and run north or south with the lake being this low new hazards are popping up..

My son and I had a similar incident this spring. We were both ejected from the boat. I actually skipped 3 times before I settled into the water. It was very violent and scary. We were only going about 45 MPH. Cant imagine that happening at 65 or 70. Luckily we were wearing our life jackets. Glad you guys are ok, could have been a lot worse!!

Cody Malone lost one last year at Red River running W O T 70mph plus. I was just behind him when his lower unit came off and flew through the air in his rooster tail. His boat did a full turn and a half in the air, he hadn't hit a thing. If the bolts loosen up it will shear right off and when it comes off you wont control the boat. Someone get him to tell the story.

No. Your statement is not correct. With a boat traveling at that speed, instant loss of lift from the prop will cause an immediate drop in the bow which will cause the boat to hook. Momentum will take over from there and cause the boat to spin until that energy is dissipated.

Don't believe it? You can test it yourself - raise your engine really high, get going fast at full trim and cross a wake. Done just right and your prop will lose bite, causing the same reaction.

The man says he didn't hit anything. Why is everyone else who wasn't with him such a freakin expert on what happened to him?

Glad you're ok. And yes, wear your pfd and kill switch.

I found a link to a thread on bass boat central where a guy in Virginia had the same exact thing happen to his Merc Pro XS and they sent out some engineers who in the end agreed it was not due to him hitting anything. I will attach the link if anyone is interested. He explains what caused his to come apart. Maybe this will help someone else before the same happens to them.

You better hit sometning! Or your insurance will not pay. Have seen several shear off from stump impact that the owner never felt anything. Most of them happened on P. K.

Listen to the man. He speaks the truth about the boat hooking. They will do a violent bat turn at speed.
