The 1.5 that KVD uses is the same size and style as the CRUL and CRULD model H2O lures. I don't know if the 1.5 has a rattle in it though. I use the H2O and catch good sized fish. My dad fishes professionaly and has me clear the shelf to send them to him when they get the ghost shad color in. That and the diamond dust colors are pretty productive. Hope this helps and good luck.

The smaller lures seem to work better for me in clearer water. I think the smaller profile is more subtle and doesn't stand out as a fake.

Gotta get them in the cover and bounce them off everything you will lose a few learning or atleast I did till I could tell the difference from hittin stuff and a strike I set the hook on alot of trees when I first started throwing them and still do sometimes. Thats the key for me crank them in the cover.

Find the cover. I was looking through my dads tackle box one day and saw a rattle trap relative to the size of a playing card but longer. I laughed so hard and thought it was a joke. he swore he would catch some lunkers with it so we headed to down to the tank to prove this. It was wild because the biggest fish he caught was probably three pounds and we know there are some big bass in the tank. Its just about finding where the big ones are and presentation. Size is a small factor but the big ones will hit tiny lures and small fish will hit big lure and vice versa. Location is the key.

Big fish will hit small cranks and small fish will hit big cranks! We are about to be hitting the time of year where it is a good idea to be throwing smaller bates, as we move into the winter that is. My favorite crank is the Strike King Red Eye Shad, it is lipless and I have caught a bunch of nice bigguns on those. I know you have seen some of my Facebook pics Russ and a good number of those were caught on the Red Eye Shad!! My main size all year round is the 1/2oz but in the winter I will go smaller. I have had some luck with the H20's but nothing like the Strike Kings! Like others stated also, gotta get that presentation down also!!

A few points I would to make would be:
Your water clarity many times dictates the depth the bigger fish will sit. You can go to falcon, RC, Twok, or any other big bass lake that is off colored and catch giant bass on a square lip.
Big bass will eat big baits but even more important to me bigger bait run true with bigger treble hooks. It is hard to keep big bass on with #6 or 8 trebles especially if you need to pull them out of cover.

Timing is everything. Saturday hot, humid and sunny I walked around this small lake and caught one fish that would fit in the palm of my hand on a spinnerbait. Yesterday pouring rain, I went back to the same place threw spinnerbait caught 1 decent keeper. I took the rods back to my truck and thought about leaving and I said to myself take a lap with this crankbait because the one keeper that I caught was down about a foot. I ended up catching an additional 7 keepers on this crankbait, which btw is a oyster colored Strike King series 1 that Dick's had marked down to $1.38.

I usually have 2 crankbaits tied on with different depths. Depthfinder will say one thing but the fish will say something else. But these guys are right deflecting off cover will trigger strikes, just pay attention or you'll get that rod jerked out of your hands.

Elephants eat peanuts. Big bass are like big bucks, leary, hard to trick, and spend their time in places where they are not usually harassed. Keep that in mind when looking for places to fish, find the subtle cover other guys are passing over. Ifyou drive by and see something that looks good, it looked good to the last 50 guys as well.

About 10 years ago Bassmaster Magazine had an article called "Secret Weapons of the Pros". Rick Clunn claimed that he used a Norman Crappie Crankbait to catch his limit and then switched to larger profiled bait to catch bigger bass. He would change out the #10 hooks with a #4 and a #6.

I went to BPS and stockpiled these lures and they do catch fish and lots of them. I've also caught my PB with this lure.

The CRUL and CRULD are 0.5 size models not 1.5. The 1.5 is the CRS.

Cranks are definately a stud item in the arsenal. It's probably the first thing I'll throw to locate fish with. Sq Bill, mid Divers and DDs. With DDs, Not only is bang'n into stuff a neccessary thing to do, but also keeping contact with the bottom. I also use scent on my cranks, If you will apply some just under the bil, it won't wash off as fast. And it you will apply a dab of non flavored chapstik frst, then the scent has something to hold on to even longer. 2cents
