I soak them in a shot glass with lighter fluid (naptha). Keep spinning them perodically on the end of a ice pick or a pencil while cleaning the rest of the reel. When you think they are clean and spin freely, change the fluid and soak some more. Make sure they are good and dry before oiling them. I use a needle bottle to apply ONE SMALL DROP of yellow rocket fuel. If you can not get them to spin free or they feel a little rough, try again or buy upgrades then. By the way, I have a a dozen or so of the needle bottles perfect for reels if anybody wants one pm me and I can send you one.

Where do you get ceramic bearings for the curado? I'd love to make the upgrade!

I have the Ceramic Hybrids for your Shimano's. They are in stock ready to ship. Shawn with The Tackle Smith has switched over to these for his customers. Great fast and smooth bearings.

I started this thread to see if you guys even knew about this type of upgrade. Or even if the upgrade is worth the investment. Some did, some didn't. Thats the good thing about TFF, learning, sharing and knowing that everyone has the ability to add by just asking. (Pat'n my back) Point is, if you gotta question, this is probably the best place to ask it!

Awesome I never knew about the ceramic bearings, Ill have to try them out, I guess my question would be does it make it spin so fast that you get more backlashes? I have been fishing for years and seems everytime i go I atleast get one or two backlashes. I guess all you would have to do is tighten the break. But was just wondering.

I use Vxb shielded ceramic very smooth can pitch a mile and make very long cast. Like the shielded no noise I tournament fish and use only one very small drop rocket fuel yellow label every three weeks.

Stock curado ABEC #3 SS turn 50,000 rpm the ABEC #5 ceramic turn 100,000 RPM the ABEC #7 also turn 100,000 rpm for the money I use the ABEC #5.

When you change the main drive shaft bearing really smooths a reel for cranking.

Go to Boca Bearinngs application page and see if they don't have a kit to fit your reels. If they don't you can still take your reel apart and measure your bearings for size. They probably have them.

I like the orange seal bearings because they should stay cleaner longer. If you dunk them in the lake often I would use the ones without the shield.

I'd like to make all my reels the equivalent of a 1970 Chevelle SS. I'm totally into high performance stuff! A lot of my stuff is new, so I'm going to wait until my reels get a little older then change them out.

I purchased my Boca Ceramics on Ebay. Greatly improved the casting distance on my Revo S.
