I weighed a bass back in Dec caught by a man that I know has been fishing for bass for over 20 years. He trolled over to me and said he had one "Way over Ten" and asked me if I had a scale. He pulls the fish out of his livewell and asks me what I think...

I didn't want to hurt his feelings so I said, "That's a Goodun man!" What I thought to myself was that it looked like it was about seven and a half... He hands me the fish and I hook it on the scales... It goes exactly 7.50.

I tell him what the scales read and he say, "Oh no, that can't be right!" I just agree with him and hand the fish back over to him.

No disrespect to anyone but a True Ten Pound Bass is a Big, Big Fish guys and it is a very special day when you catch one.

No argument here. Im 54 and MPB is a seven and a half pounder from Lake Fork a few years ago. Caught it while goofing around one day fishing from the bank at the public ramp on 155. Was throwing a Xcaliber 3/4 ounce rattle bait in Royal Red. Had the wind to my back, and was using a Falcon Lowrider Outtasight rod. Its eight feet long, and sweet Mother McCree I was making some loooong cast that day. Caught that bad girl about 70 or 75 yard out. I had the right set-up though. I had the Outtasight paired with a Chronarch 100BPV. I just kept cranking till I got her to the shore. She missed getting me a TP&W Big Fish Award by an half of an inch. RATS!

Hate to be the one to say it but posting pictures on here is not validation of a DD. Pictures are just as deceiving as some of the scales that are used. I know a lot of people that can look at a fish and come pretty darn close to guessing its weight. Not many folks can do it from random pictures. Pictures can easily distort the perception of the actual size of the fish.

Take all the pictures you want for your memories but get a good set of scales. Most of the digital scales on the market now are pretty good. Main thing is if you are sure if your fish is a DD.
Doesn't really matter what me or anyone else thinks. If you have put a 10+ in the boat or on the bank, its a great accomplishment.

10 lb is the mark

They count in all waters

They are so special

They are rarer than one would believe reading this forum

I've caught my share of DD fish and they all have a special place in my memory

When I was a kid my dad caught a 6lb bass at Sam Rayburn and back then that fish seemed so huge to me- before Florida stockings. Just make your own personal goals and go for it. A guy fishing all the time at falcon and a guy fishing all the time on say Texas rivers would have much different size goals.

This is how I calibrated my Berkley digital scale... I went to Lake Fork Marina and sat an empty bucket on their certified scale. I filled it with water until it read exactly 10.00. Then I weighed it with my handheld scale. Mine is two ounces light.

I had a guy with me last fall catch a 10.32 weighed on the marinas certified scale. She went 10.20 on mine. 0.12 is basically two ounces. Pretty accurate...

I remember growing up, fishing in the early 70's with my dad, that an 8 was considered a big fish. I still like 8's grin

A 1/2 pounder is as good as a DD to a kid, it is all in the eyes of the angler as to what a good fish is. 10 pounds is a Double digit always has been and always will be. Enjoy the sport and who cares how big they are. I am stuck on 12.54, but the 7.4 I caught Sunday was as good a fish as any and so was the 5.4 earlier that morning. Enjoy the moment. I personally would love to get a SAL and have been trying since it came into existance. Maybe one day it will happen but whether it does or does'nt I will still enjoy the sport.

I have been fishing falcon for thirty days. Those that know me can see my FB page and could verify Im hammerring on some big fish. Now I fish 5-6 days a week for 4-6 hours a day. But still lots of time on the water. I have talked to guides and other fisherman. There out there but not just lots and lots of them. I have broke off a many way over. FOR SURE(4-5).LOL
I actually went out with a couple of diffrent guides. Both said why do u neeed me?
We need some luck!
Well we put a heavy whacking on big fish but no tens.
If anyone thinks getting a ten is easy anywhere dream on.

Ten lb is a big fish. 98% or more fishermen will never catch one.I have caught one DD and two different friends have caught DDs out of my boat.I am 59 and have been fishing for a long time so they are pretty rare.

A 10 pound plus fish is just a different kind of animal. It's not the exact weight of 10, but there comes a point that the power of a bass goes to a different level. Even our heavier bass rod are not ideal to muscle in a 12 pounder especially getting them out of where they like to live. They fight more like a big saltwater striper with short powerful runs. I am sure I've lost well over a dozen dd fish (probably more) at Falcon over the last 3 years. My heart was broken many times until I finally put a 12.2 in the boat. And I could have easily lost that fish as well.

You look at all the reports from Falcon and it seems like almost everyone catches dds -- not so. I think it's just that people who do catch a big fish are more likely to report it.

I have 2 unofficial 10 lbers. Biggest I have weighed on scale was 9lbs I caught at Sam Raburn at age 11. One 10 lber was from a golf course... the other at Decker Lake. Bad thing is that I am just guessing by looking at them. I have guessed within 3 ounces for my friends 10.5 oz bass so I am fairly good. If I kne how to post pics, I would post my latest 10lber .. It might have been bigger but because no scale, I stopped at 10. Of course when I do bring my scale though... no biggens!!

I'm late getting in on this but I think 10 still gets your ticket punched! I've caught 6 over the 10 mark and one in the teens. Pictures are so horribly deceiving that I consider them almost useless in determining how large a fish is. I am 6'2" and weigh 350# and make a 10# fish look like a bank runner. I use a high quality spring type scale (Cardoza) and check it's calibration on a very regular basis. I have little faith or trust in the hand held digital scales. I have seen way too many happy digitals in the past.
