I know it isnt Texas. There once was a place in Carlsbad, NM.. Called Beavers. Man, that was some good stuff!! We would always hit it on the way hunting, and on the trip back.

Try Cherry Creek restaurant in Austin. Best catfish ever, plus excellent gumbo.

Can anyone recommend anything around San Antonio? Clear Springs Cafe, with Sea Island a close second, is about the best I've found. Any "Old Timers" remember that catfish barn near Tyler? Noonday, I think the community was called. Can't remember the name of the place--may have been Red's. I went about 100 miles out of my way to eat there, about 10 years or so ago, and found the place had burned to the ground. The locals I talked to told me the owner bought only from local catfish farmers, and wouldn't buy a fish that wasn't still alive. Now that was catfish.

That was probably Red Ackers on hwy 315 south of Chandler near Flat Creek bridge on Palestine. Was hard to beat. They opened a new big place on hwy 155 south of Tyler after that.

Red Ackers, that's it. They told me he was closed for good. Long drive from SA. The pickeled tomatos and made-from-scratch hushpuppies they started you off with hit the spot too.

I think he is talking about a place called Meats and Sweets, right off 78 in Lavon on the right before you get to the Lavonia Park entrance across the street from the Exxon gas station. I have never tried it, but live in Lavon and will try it now.

It used to be when it was Mitchell's Fish Fry. It changed names to Stacy's about 2 or 3 years ago and the fish got bad. Had a lot of grey and fat in it. They changed the shrimp too. We used to love that place. It had an hour wait unless you got there at 4o'clock nwhen it was Mitchells. We tried it again about a month ago just to see if it had changed, but no one was there and the food was less than par. Cost nearly $60 for my wife, me and 3 kids. They charged us for our 20 month old too rolfmao

Best fried catfish? Right here!

On my camping stove in my backyard, in my cast iron skillet, right after a quick trip to the Elm Fork!
