If water is so precious why not make more lakes? It is expensive but it makes more sense than running around spreading invasive species around by transfering water. Besides we need more fishing holes.

We need to, but people keep protesting/blocking plans due to "environmental concerns". Granted, there are some downsides to creating more reservoirs but dying due to dehydration would suck more I think.

So if we introduce these into Fork and Tawakoni, will they quit pumping water out?
Glad to have taken..."the trash in the back!"

So if we introduce these into Fork and Tawakoni, will they quit pumping water out? I doubt that. They'd probably just nuke the lake to get rid of them if it became too much a problem. Millions of people do depend on the drinking water. People trump fish at some point. They are there for the water, other than Caddo Lake.... It's why we built them and want to build more, but the hippies are winning that fight.

Seems like the water at lake Lavon has cleared up a lot in the last few years. I'm guessing zebra mussels have something to do with it. You really can't stop them.

I think that is one vote for invasive species. All the experts agree a $30m filter would stop them (filter them out). Might create a few jobs.
And I know who "Jeff" is.

With good management and cooperation there is no reason we can't have both good drinking water and good fishing lakes. When you have one level of government fighting the other, this is not going to happen.Cooperation is the key. When was the last time we saw that on any issue.

someone educate me on why the ZM's are bad for the lake? is there any good they can do for a lake? When watching bass masters i always see everyone fishing the ZM beds and wieghing sacks.

The ZMs will clog the pipes and any hard surface on the dam, how much will water prices go up if the cost of removing the ZMs yearly is hundreds of thousands of dollars and what about the dam? If there is flooding and they cant open the gates because of the ZMs what will happen?

They also damage the impellers on intake pumps. At $50k to 100k a pump....that is a big cost increase. Not saying they can't do some good for lake ecology. These are non-native ecosystems to begin with that really haven't been around too long. We're not sure exactly what level of stress they can withstand.

Same old same old.Scientific research and information from people who have to deal with zm's on a daily basis ie pump stations etc can't be right right about it.Better to just pull a guess out of your rear and see how many folks will decide i t is factual and pass it on. Further, people will not snap to the lack of water until they can't. flush their toilet
