All I can say is, it is about dang time! They should have done this as soon as they found them in Lavon.
Maybe now they will reduce the water draw on Fork and Tawak.
Glad to have taken..."the trash in the back!"

maybe they will help clear up the water so the deep grass can grow in Lavon! I can tell you this, when Marine Creek was clear- there was hydrilla out to 20' deep! and BIG fish! that was the hayday of that lake.. once it became muddy from the influx of the construction water in the housing development(and possibly the lyme).. the grass died and the fishing became tough.

So whats the downside of ZM's? I know that they attach to docks, boats, trees etc but, how do they effect the lake and fishing?

clear the water, cut your line. thats the only two things I can see that they do to affect us. I dont mind either one.

If you watch the youtube video I posted you can see where the ZM filter the good plankton out of the water and leaving the bad plankton. Thus, robbing the bait fish and fry of much needed plankton.

That has not proven to be the case yet in Texoma (I live a few miles away). We had a HUGE shad die-off last year after the cold winter. But now, as many shad as have ever been in the lake. Now what the future holds for Texoma long-term, well, we'll see. But so far at least, I can't see any negative effect on the lake's fishing because of our zebra infestation.

And by the way, I just remembered this news release from 2009. According to it, seems zebras are already in the Lavon watershed: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/newsmedia/releases/?req=20090817a"...Aug. 3 live zebra mussels were found in West Prong Sister Grove Creek in Grayson County approximately 300 yards downstream of the Lake Texoma water transfer pipe. This creek flows into Lake Lavon."

The main issues with the zm's were always clogging pipes, boat/ship engines and ballasts, etc. The ecological impacts are replacing native mussels, clearing water, and filtering out plankton (which might unbalance food chains). The hardcore environmentalists are going to freak out about native mussels going extinct but fact of the matter is the general public is going to say, "Who cares?" So, I doubt their spread will ever be stopped, just slowed down.
Were not very good at predicting what will happen following a new species introduction because ecosystems are so complex. We always assume it'll be the end of the world but, it's not. The other species will adjust and adapt to the new conditions like always. And, like it was mentioned, Texoma and the Great Lakes seem to be fishing fine with the mussels soooo?

I dunno it takes a certain bottom composition to grow grass, it must have some firmness. Lavon is heavily silted which prevents grass growth. The other factor is how much a lake level fluctuates, Lavon does that as well. Of course it grows on Hubbard so there's that.....lol
