OK , I quit !
I am getting a little slower in my senior years..
I usta launch in less than 39 seconds with my buddy driving the truck..(record set in 1957)
Nowadays , it take me longer than that to climb in the boat.
then my buddy , who has a missin leg ,take's forever to back the truck down the ramp..his cateracts bother him ..

that being said I guess we will quit using the ramps, cause
we both lived through several wars and sure dont want to hold up the generation that is in "control" now .

Ha ha, Any of you older hands on here remember launching at Monticillo in the old days when they wouldn't open the gate til 6:00. Fist fight's on the boat ramp, you would sit in line for 1 1/2 hours & some clown would wait til he got to the ramp to rig his boat down. Those were the days.

I don't think anyone is saying you can't use the ramp because you're a little slow. The problem is when you back it half the way down the ramp and THEN start getting your boat ready to launch. If your boat is ready to launch when you get to the ramp, that's all the consideration for others time that any reasonable person could ask for. However long it takes you after that based on skill level or other factors is another issue.

I'm 26 and certainly a different generation than anyone who's lived through a couple wars, but I don't have any more "control" over what goes on at those ramps than you do. I'm sure nobody over age 50 ever gets mad about what goes on the ramps.

At a team tournament a few years ago in Illinois we had a 2 boat ramp, and about 50 boats a tournament, there was normally a line of 30 boats waiting to back down the ramp. There were 2 slots empty but the truck ahead of me had a guy in it, that I assume had never backed a trailer before. He ended up after 10 minutes jackknifed with the trailer facing uphill taking up both ramps, had it been the morning it may have been upsetting, but since it was the end of thye day just watching this all unfold was worth the wait.

Not everone will be as seasoned and as fast as others, so I can understand a small wait, but people could at least be prepared to launch before they get in line and it would save a ton of time on the ramp.

OK let's break it down into steps. Which are the hardest ones?
Is it charging your batteries before you leave the house?
How about putting fuel in the tanks? How about pumping the squeeze bulb?
Or, is it the making sure everything is ready, and everything's in the boat, BEFORE you drive down the ramp to the turn around?
How about the making sure someone competent is behind the wheel(tow vehicle AND boat) just before you back the trailer into the water?

Now, which of these steps can you practice, and learn, BEFORE you go to the lake?
Are you the kind of person who goes to the ramp on the busiest day (holiday weekends) to learn all this stuff?

For me, the hardest part is finding the fish.

Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

If I haven't started the outboard in a while, I will put it on muffs and do it at home to make sure it starts. It will start again easy at the lake.

I don't mind if people take a bit longer at the ramp. I see it as an indication that I should have gotten there earlier. However, I do get upset when people's kids are swimming on the ramp and the adults are watching them. I have told more than one family to move their kids off the ramp.

I see a lot of rants on here about the boat ramp, but most of the time the person who starts the thread never said anything at the time. The lake, not the forum, is the place to teach. People here are well aware of it. Those at the lake who don't go often probably don't post on a fishing forum. Just make your way over, offer assistance and just that little deed will let them know they are holding things up.

You know this is not about actually backing in, this is about not being ready to launch when you get there and when i say it took 15min i really mean 15min. That is too long to wait at a boat ramp. I am not an impatient person but DAMN!!!!

I bank fish because it is healthier, I see more of creation, I get a great hike, and I catch more fish than 90% of boaters. Please don't wish that a perceived inadequate person in your opinion should move to a lower life form of a bank fisher. It is quite the opposite IMO. Most of the boaters, when they see me catching, drive their boats to within twenty yards of me, park right over my cast spot, throw their lines a few times, then race off. It takes a good 10 minutes for the fish to get back into the action. My casting distance is 40 yards, as evidenced this Saturday when I cast and snagged the line of a boater. The longer most of you guys wait in line, the more relaxed it is for me fishing. smile

Just saw a young guy the other day with his first bassboat ,and I actually had to laugh not at just him but myself.I remember when I was having the same problems.I sort of waited out there and keep fishing watching him and his buddy try to load the boat.Matter of fact, caught two while waiyning. He even had the boat side fender protectors , and I had the same thing.

It can really cause some anxiety for a first timer - I remember my first couple times down the ramp, everything that could go wrong did, and it was pretty stressful trying to not to hold up the line.

Not saying those guys couldn't have done a better job, but in the grand scheme of things, 12 minutes ain't too bad, and everyone's gotta start somewhere...not sure coming onto a forum 4 days later to vent is really going to get them up and down the ramp any faster. Maybe help 'em out with some friendly advice so next time they don't hold you up? thumb

Well put, last year we bought our first boat and it was nerve racking for sure. At first I could not even get backed up correctly and if I saw another boat I would go around and try again. Then I could not the boat on the trailer correct but had some people help me. After a year and launching a bunch of times I am launched in 3 min or so. It takes time to learn.

I can unload my boat by myself in 5 minutes and have time to spare. If you are in such a hurry, go give them a hand. Or else learn to be more patient.

Figures a sooner fan would comment without understanding. I am not going to help them unload there icechest, rods, lifejackets, and take there tie down off for them. Hell maybe I should just back the trailer up and launch the boat for them!!! This is only about not being ready to launch when on the ramp not backing in and launching.
