Really it's a 5' x5' square of heavy mesh wire used to build fences.

Not sure if you had any string out, as if you were casting, or a fish pulled in. Ive hurriedly tied on a few treble hooks at 12 inch spaces and a heavy weight on the end an toss across where I thought the line was and hooked the line and got it that way. You have to be patient and really reel in slowly so the trebles can really go across the bottom. (I didnt have the chain stringer so had to improvise.)

Throw your favorite rod & reel into a swimming pool and watch it. They tend to sit on the bottom with the reel down and the tip floating up. This is why those suckers are so hard to snag when they go over...

BTW, +1 on the old chain link stringer. Use your marker buoy line.

if the winds been bad you'll prolly never find it imo. if you don't get it right then and there and there is any water depth and current(which there will be from the wind) you have no idea where it has ended up.

I've lost some damn good rods in the past. if you can't get it right then, i never seem to on trips back.

So...tell me just how this happns in the first palce. Ive heard of rods bouncing out of boats and such but do you just lose your grip and off it goes into the deep? noidea
Seems a rod guy could make a little laynard for that.

Was fishing at lake raven once. I set my pole down to get a drink and heard a splash saw my pole sinking, it was my best pole I had so I jumped in after it, knowing there is alligators around, dont know what I was thinking. Well... got the pole and handed it to my dad and had a 4 pound bass on it smile

We all stumble and make mistakes. When you stumble, do you want your brother to help knock you down or to help set you back on your feet?
