No hurricanes please. Been thru Rita and Ike, cost me thousands in lost timber, out of power almost a combined month. Hard times for my family. I'd rather see Ivie dry up. Ike killed over a hundred folks . Let's wish for something else. We have had 0.21 of an inch this year. Dry as a powder house fart. Fires running rampant. Property loss, livestock loss, lakes drying up, wells drying up, crops drying up, ranchers shutting down. 50+ mile per hour winds. Dirt storms like I have never seen before. With all due respect, im sorry those people died in Ike, and Katrina, and every other hurricane that has hit our coastlines. However the people that live on the coast know a hurricane is coming, and have the oppertunity to evacuate. Those 100 people chose to chance fate, and stay. Now if it takes a hurricane, or a tropical storm to give us some rain, bring it on. If we dont get some rain soon, there will be more than a 100 lives affected by this drought.

+1, West Texas needs more rain than anyone else. Since I've been home, so many people have complained about how they need rain in DFW because the lawns are dying, yet they don't think about the fires and lakes drying up just a little ways west. Unfortunately, the aquifer in the panhandle is also losing water at such a rapid pace that it, with substantial rain, would take multiple generations to replenish. My freshwater ecology teacher talked about it and said if it goes dry, it could take several thousand years to fill. With Meredith being closed and the pipeline to Alan Henry being put in, people are using the aquifer more than usual. I'm glad to see Midland finally forced rationing on its inhabitants. The hurrican idea is simple: Evac when the warnings come, and property damage is all you have to worry about. If Ivie dries up, Abilene, San Angelo, Midland/Odessa, Big Spring, and many other cities have to find other water sources. Ends up being over a half of a million people suffering, along with the majority of farmlands.

With all of the technology with desalinization systems these days it seems that massive pipe lines would be considered as government infrastructure to create jobs and maintain a more stabil and constant water sources in the sunbelt states For 's sake our great grand pappy's built the train system to support the growth and conditions

I have been saying for years (mostly to myself since I am the only one that listens to me) that we need a pipe line system from the wetter regions to the drier ones. Probably could even use existing right-of-way owned by the oil and gas pipelines. There has been enough flood water pass down the Mississippi recently to water the drought areas in the South and West for a while. I am sure the environmentalist would find reasons not to build something like that tho.

I saw a show about that exact thing. It was because Lake Mead is drying up and those that pump it for water are getting worried. There exact quote was "if we can pump oil across Alaska then theres no reason we can't pump water here. But they are going to have to emminent domain alot of property for that to happen.

I would wish no harm on someone else just to satisfy my needs. And to be sure we are having fires here in the Pineywoods too ... it is terribly dry here too. We normally get 50+" of rain a year and I think we've had4-5". We have a LOT more fuel to burn here than out in the grasslands/semi-arid regions. Different regions have different concerns. I am not on the coast and am nearly 80 miles inland. Generally hurricanes wouldn't hold their strength this far inland but as of late they are. I agree SOME of the folks that lost their lives tempted fate with the hurricanes but that is not ALL of them. Hope you West Texans get some moisture. Hang in there and we'll say prayers for y'all! The pipeline thing has been discussed many times here locally to ship water to more arid regions. Don't you think it would encourage more development to areas that are already past their maximum capacities for water usage instead of just giving the areas a backup supply? BTW Rayburn and TBend are at historic low levels.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools

Eminent domain should not be a huge problem. Oil and gas lines already have right of way all across the country. Could buy up right of way where ever needed and land owners could still use the land at least to some extent. I think if we used the money we are wasting in the mid-east fighting other people's battles and the money that we are giving to other countries as foreign aid, we could build the pipeline and have a surplus left over to improve the ramps, docks and stock more bass in the lakes for us to catch.

I wish you could too.
Finally got some measurable rain fall last night in San Antonio. First of the year.
I woke up this morning thanking Jesus for the rain and praying for more. Hopefully the Jet Stream will sink and we can relieve some of the pressure from the mid west
We need all the rain you can send our way right now.
Keep praying for more.
