The marina I work at has a Phoenix dealership. I see them every day. I say they are great boats all the way around. I know Legend makes a good boat also. I've just never been around them though.
They may have a couple of last years boats on hand that a guy ought to get a break on the price a bit, I would think.

The SHO on a legend is unbelievable with the power it has!! The Phoenix with a 250 pro xs, well all I can say about it is that it seems like it don't stop gaining speed. I have a skeeter with a 300 on it and the Phoenix has the same top end in my opinion. The front end on both boats are a little narrow but I'm coming from a skeeter with a football field for a front deck it seems!!

Both boats are great!! Just take a test ride to see what you think. Please share with us after you do. Do a little write up on the test drives..

Why do I keep reading these posts! I'm not in the market!.....sorry. I'm posting out loud..Legends sure are easy on the eyes. I'm with most everybody else. Ride and decide. No other way to do it.

I owned a legend and the ride was great. I sold it for the main reason was the front deck space. I kept stepping on my rods it's so tight. The customer service is great. I road with Gary Clouse owner of Phoniex boats and I love the Phoniex better. The ride was just as nice as the Legend but the room and storage was much, much better. There is storage place under the front seat for the net which was really cool. I can't speak for the customer service for Phoniex boats but if I had the choice I would go with Phoniex for my own reason. You need to put down on paper the things you want in a boat. Compair base line prices and then compair the prices after you have done with all the add on, i.e. electronics and so on. But whatever you do I have to take a test ride in both of them.

Both are nice boats. This will be like the Ford/Chevy Debate.

I believe there is a quite a price difference between the two comparably equipped boats though. I've seen the advertised pricing on the Phoenix 721 and I know what I paid for my new Alpha 211.

What I DO like about both boat companies is the fact that they are individually owned by folks that fish. They are not owned by some corporation that has to answer to the stockholders and cut corners if their Profit & Loss statement looks bad at the end of the year.

No offense to anyone here but that is why I have no interest in Triton any longer. When Earl Bentz sold Triton I went looking.

Go take a ride in both. IM in NW Houston and i i will take you for a ride in my 211 any time you would like. I made the switch from Skeeter about a year ago and was deciding between Basscat and Legend. I went with the Legend because of the quality of the boat. Fit and finish was the best i could find, No loose wires, no fiberglass splinters, no cheap plastic moldings to break, stainless latches and the gel coat is top notch, nothing shines like my Legend. The folks at Legend are the best i have ever ran into. Randy Quales and Dean Smith are 100% Class act guys that will go out of their way to make sure you are happy.

I have driven and ridden in both several times. They are both very good boats. But IMO the Phoenix would be my choice. The main factor being that Legend boats tend to be LITTLE more of a wet ride and the Phoenix is SLIGHTLY better in rough water.
BUT, having said that. They would both be a good new boat. It really depends on the price and dealer location. Then there is your personal preference of the ride. Some people like a high light ride some people like a more deeper-in-the water ride.
Test them both before you go and haggle for the best price.

Let me chime in as I have experience with both. I used to own a 21' Bumble Bee and began looking for a new boat in 2009. Well in Oct of 09 I went to the Toyota bass classic specifically to look at and drive the Phoenix (Drove from San Antonio to Conroe). I was very interested in thier boats (since they purchased the old bumble bee plant and I loved my bumble bee), as I had reasearched Phoenix heavily on Line. I realized they built a new mold with the Phoenix but was hoping it would perform like my bee.

That said I get to the TTBC and set up a test drive in a Phoenix 721proxp. I will tell you the good and the bad:

1. First the good - The boat handles rough water OK and was a stable and good fishing platform. I like the layout of the storage and amount of storage on the boat. But my impression stops there.
2. Now for the bad - the boat I ran had a 250 HP yami (I wanted a Yami engine any way) and I felt it was a led sled. I ran this boat hard for about 30-40 mins in all kind of water. The wind was blowing so I got to test it in 1.5-2' chop which it handled OK and we took alot of spray, Got back by the dam where it was calm and opened it up and could not get over 65 MPH out of it empty with only 1/2 tank of gas and 2 guys, no tackle. Was not nimble at all in the turns and would not bite to turn at high speeds, would actually slide in the hard turns. I was not impressed with the way the boat performed.

I thought it was a good fishing plat form, as I dropped the TM in the windy water and turned the boat every direction against the wind to see how stable it was, but I did not like the running performance.

I get back from the test run thank the dealer for taking me out and continue going through the show.

Bout an hour later I run by the Legend booth, start talking to Randy Qualls and he gives me the 411 on every aspect of his boat from bow to stern (Gary with phoenix did not take the time to do this - he merely reffered me to the dealer) then he begs me to take a test ride. At this point I had PHoenix on my mind and was considering one even though I did not like the performance that much, but I liked the layout. After some discussion with Randy he got me to take a Test drive in an Alpha 211 the same day.

I put the Alpha through the same tests I did the Phoenix, and there was not comparison - The Legend was 8-9 mph faster, (Peaked the Legend out empty at 74 with a 250 yami) handled the rough water better - we came back from the dam at about 60-62 mph in a 1.5' chop and you would not know it high and dry with no spray, the boat will turn on a dime, and will not slide in turns at high speeds, The storage layout is great and the fit and finish were better than the Phoenix.

The only down side to the Legend, was when I droped the trolling motor in the wind and you get the boat sideways where the waves are hitting the port or starboard side it would rock a little more than the Phoenix, but not enought to make you lose balance or not be able to fish but rocked a little more than the Phoenix.

Couple that with the fact that Randy Qualls (owner of Legend) took my name and cell phone number and even called me 3 weeks later to ask how I liked the boat and what my thoughts were after running the other brands at the show. He did not pressure me to buy but just let me know to call him should I want to buy and he would take care of me. Great people at Legend - I met all of them when I drove to Arkanasa to pick up my Legend and now have an exteded boat family. The total experience with Legend was great.

Hope that lengthy explanation provides some insight - I went with the Legend and have been glad I did. I can always get a person on the phone at the plant and they work with you to get your boat exactly like you want it if you order a new one. I had my ruler blow out and was able to get it replaced in 2 days.

I would strongly suggest you drive them both yourself to determine which you like better, which is what I did, but I promise you would be happy with the Legend. If you are ever in South Texas and want to go for a ride - PM me here and I will take you out.

BTW, the new Alpha hull is different than the older Legend hulls. Rides better and stays drier.

I am no boat builder or auto body guy but what I did was went to the back of the boat and looked down the side the full length of the boats. I did this when I was at the Classic and also at the Tyler boat show. The Legend was smoothe as glass and the 4 Phoenix's I looked at were wavy. I am not saying they are bad boats just pointing out what I saw and my opinion.

Both boats are over 40k new and will be worth 20k in 5 years. Its not a good investment ,so buy the one YOU like the best. I dont buy all the hype from different brands. You can get the same motor, trolling motor, electronics on either boat. Thats what important for me

Do yourself a big favor if you can afford to get either then get the Legend no doubt about it. I own a Ranger and would take a Legend in a heartbeat. And I am not complaining about my Ranger cuase I love it.

seats are way to far forward on the Phoenix... that will give a much rougher ride compared to the same size boat with seats further back...

eh, I don't know how much it matters to you, but there was a poll on here asking which boat you would buy next, and out of the 8 or 900 votes (there abouts) Legend was picked more than Phoenix by a huge margin. Wasn't even close. When it comes to re-sale, its all about what the buyers want. Skeeter was the boat picked the most, and with first hand experience since I am currently looking for one, Skeeters sale fast! I'm having a hell of a time finding one. All the ones I do see and then call about are sold. There are plenty of new ones, and plenty priced over 30K but I'm looking for a 3yr old boat.
